Artist History
Crawfish of Love began in 1971 with the trio of Pat Ogilvie, Dave Roberts and Phil Sturgeswriting and jamming in true garage fashion. Musical influences included West Coastpsychedelia as epitomized by the great Quicksilver Messenger Service ( still active todayand producing spectacular work thanks to Gary Duncan's hard work). Verbal influences forearly CRAWFISH includedFiresign Theater, Lord Buckley, Joey Bishop, Gordon Solie and Wild Man Fischer. Beefhearts"Trout Mask Replica" is considered by the CRAWFISH to be the perfect album.
By 1973 the CRAWFISH had turned toward acoustic music and fell in with the massive North Floridabluegrass movement. For the next 11 years the CRAWFISH played the traditional bluegrasscircuit, doing several shows at the fabled Malabar Lounge - at that time the Mecca forlocal bluegrass.
By this time Roberts and Sturges were concentrating on writingfractured scenarios and looping them with sound experiments on reel to reel tape. One ofthese tapes made it to the desk of Landon Walker, host of the groundbreaking"Metro" radio program. Landon playing "Vivacious WildebeestWatercooler" on the air. In fact Landon Walker's "Metro" show was veryinstrumental in the writing of "Septober....Octember". Landon's program was and still is an"intoxicating mix" of world music, spoken word, jazz, blues and esoteria, allwoven masterfully with witty conversation. A typical Metro show might mix CaptainBeefheart, William Burroughs, tribal chants, Mississippi Fred McDowell and always largedoses of Bob and Ray.
The CRAWFISH wanted tomake a CD that fit a format like the Metro show. Landon's show proves that odd music canindeed get radio play. So the CRAWFISH set about writing the songs for theCD as far back as 1984.

“ CRAWFISH OFLOVE is an amazing ensemble. Ringleader David Robertsgathered the area’s most opened minded musicians and pushed them to their limits, requesting the impossible and getting it, The true reward for work of this caliber comesfrom within, from the heart of the artist. Roberts feels content in this knowledge.
