Artist description
The trio’s name literally means “new mode of existence” in Russian. This reflects quite fully the essence of their style , which is Russian folk music performed in a new way. This “new” way, though, means getting closer to the authentic sound and spirit of the tunes, rather than abridging them to the modern tastes. Most of the material was collected in folklore expeditions and is , therefore, first-hand. The peculiar sound of the group is also due to the rather odd choice of instruments for the genre (clarinet and saxophones and cello, accompanying female voice). The ensemble has existed for several years and enjoys growing popularity in St.Petersburg and Moscow, where they have recently won the first prize at the all-Russian competition of folk music performers. |
