Artist History
Formed by songwriting partners Will Birch (drums) and John Wicks (Rhythm Guitar/Lead Vocals) after the dissolution of the legendary pub rock band, Kurssal Flyers. Joined by Phil Brown (bass) and Huw Gower (Lead guitar), their debut album SHADES IN BED was partially produced by Mutt Lange, containing their now signature tune STARRY EYES. Gower was dismissed after the 1979 US tour, and replaced by JUDE COLE, who shared vocals with John Wicks. Released CRASHES in the summer of 1980. US tour cut short due to record label pulling funding. Despite urging by Cole to continue touring on their own, the band returned to England and Cole went on to work with Del Shannon, Dwight Twilley, and others. For the 3rd album, MUSIC ON BOTH SIDES, the band enlisted a new vocalist, CHRIS GENT, and on lead guitar, DAVE WHELAN. Played one gig with this line-up, and the band basically broke up. Wicks continued to write with Birch, who went on to gain noteriety as a writer for MOJO. The original line-up reunited 1990 to record DARLIN' for a Beach Boys tribute album. On the strength of Mary Chapin Carpenter covering HEARTS IN HER EYES in her concerts, John Wicks emigrated to the USA in 1994. Toured intermittently throughout the US and Europe, while working on a new album. Currently in the process of relocating to Los Angeles. |
