Artist History
Anger, suffering but also sweetness and passion... These are words that can just partly define the explosive blend that this newborn band creates. Hangin'on a thread is a project born on March 1998 from the cooperation between PAOLO PICCAGLIANI e GIANPAOLO VIESTI, respectively drummer and guitar player from the hardcore band PROTOSUKO. ln spite of some problems concerning the line-up, the band keeps going its way until the arrival, in September, of MIRKO BETTELLI, a no chatterer bass player with high playing skills coming from different musical experiences (above all the noise scene). FEDERICO LUSUARDI also joins the band, a guitar player still playing in a good band offering some fresh and fast hardcore in the vein of the best californian bands. At this point the circle is closed: Gianpaolo, due to his considerable vocal qualities, decides to become the singer; the mutual understanding is immediate, and for the guys it's not hard at all to get along togheter from the beginning: the sound takes shape and consistence... In November the four guys record their first demo-tape at the TMB ROCKOUSE in Modena: from this session four tracks drenched with melody and passion are unleashed... In May ENRICO "LANCE" LONGHI joins in the band: expert in electronic music and DJ, member of I.H.B., he's author of collaboration with AFA and Internet projects with DJ from all over the world. FREAKOUT!, a label based in Riccione, shows its interest in the band and decides to help them in the production of the first CD, which has been released in these days with 11 exciting and touching songs. But we are just at the beginning, this is a story that has to be written and, above all, LISTENED TO... |

Press Reviews
REVIEW FROM "RUMORE" NOVEMBER,1999.By Claudio Sorge Everyone knew that the Italian Hardcore scene had an important past, but we haven't realize yet that it also has a so much worthy present.Thank to bands like HANGIN'ON A THREAD,the horizon begins now to clear upand the scene to acquire more visibility, after years of darkness. The band (fom Modena, northen Italy) takes two aspects from the Hardcore sound which cannot be set aside and works on them to get a new synthesis of "post" :the power and the emotivity.Actually,we can say the HANGIN'ON A THREAD are able to blend the QICKSAND and the DEFTONES' sounds. It's percivable from the starting point the unusual tools the band has got:the "Toy Machine"is nourished by an unyelding power. Whereas episodes as "Lane" and "Hanger down" see the plot rarefy (first one) or darken (second one), getting to unimaginable sound's peaks and quiet personal for an Italian band.Sometimes they tell us we're indulgent, but IN MY OPINION THE NEW-ITALIAN -ROCK IS THIS ONE. REVIEW FROM "ROCKIT" ,NOVEMBER 22nd,1999.By Digra Sorrow, power, suffering, quiet, childish tenderness slaughtered by the existence's cry:these are the H.O.A.T. They dissect their inner and cut out from it contrasting emotions, leading their work hung in the balance between harmony and heart-rending cries, gloomy arpeggio and sudden slaughering distortion, which are able to sketch out a shaded and clear border between an introspective vision and vent. The H.O.A.T.urge,seek,and finally come out finding their own sound, after having brought the influences deeply inside which change from the 80's reflux to the "post-hardcore/crossover/noise",that is also built up and strengthened by their innumerable artistic sources.Between the DEFTONES and the QUICKSAND,they rework out and develop the inputs which come from the U.S.,reaching a new "metal european evolution".The H.O.A.T. have nothing to do with those awful "clone-bands".The entirety of the work ,considering the band's tender age,is remarkable, rouses emotions and renovates the Italian musical undergrowth where "ska" and"ethnic-folk" boss around by now. The homogeneous and visceral "DRAINING IN THE SWAMPY LANDS"comes right into the emotive part of our souls and ARTISTICALLY HAS NOTHING TO ENVY OF THEIR AMERICAN RELATIVES' PRODUCTIONS.Well,an extremely fascinating ,complete, personal CD.... |
