Artist History Formed in the fall of 1998 by guitarist Clifton Hyde and percussionist extroidinare Kevin Garcia, guernicawas an attempt to break out of the forced "Jazz Tradition" of the Western Michigan University music department.While starting out playing covers of electric Miles and Mahavishnu tunes, soon a wealth of originals began. At this point the group was a quintet (Clifton Hyde: guitars, Bartosz Hadala: keyboards, Eric Koppa: tenor sax, Mark Ziegler: basses,Kevin Garcia: drums) and leaned heavy to traditional forms and funk. At this time the band made a tour of the Southern United States and solidified a stong group sound. By the fall, Eric Koppa had left and the group moved away from the funk of earlier and began to stretch-out with more inner-probbing improvisations and tunes...the absence of the horn gave more creative freedom to the guitar and keys and led to the "soundscape" approach that has become associated with Clifton's guitar playing.The band recorded one studio album ("Arcadia EP") and one live album (Live @ the Mermaid, New Orleans).Unfortunatly, musical differences caused the group to slowly disolve, leaving only recordings.
