Artist History
Originally formed in 1989 by guitar vituoso Gene Baker, who enlisted Jerry Timmons on vocals, Robert Van Buren on bass, and Jon R. Dittman on drums. The band was named Mad Hatter (much to the chagrin of Van Buren, who'd already spent years playing for the North Carolina band Mad Hadder). The band played the California circuit near Cal Poly University and toured heavily - including a terror tour to Alaska that ultimately broke the band up in 1991. After time passed and wounds healed, Timmons, Baker and Dittman reformed under the name Rage, and brought their latest demo tape to Van Buren, who was working in rock radio at the time. He was so enthused with the tape, he began promoting the tape on the air immediately. The band asked him to rejoin and thus, Full Tilt was born.During this tenure, the band went full steam ahead with their first full length waxing, "No Bullshit" (1992), and their lead-off single "Girls Like You". The single received heavy rotation airplay on many California stations and the band were gigging 6 nights a week up and down the California coast, doing radio and television interviews, speaking to the press, and even setting up showcases for major labels! The band issued a video complilation titled "Video Bullshit", featuring 7 clips and party footage. But tension was mounting between the bandmembers over the band's direction, and at the pinnacle of their success, Full Tilt retired for good in 1993. |
