Artist History
Two beat up guitars, a severely abused couch, and a smiling dog were among the elements that gave rise to Cradle in 1997. “I was going over to Erin’s house to hang out and maybe play a little guitar. “ Adam illustrates, “When I walked in , Erin was playing a guitar part I liked so much, I asked him to keep playing it and started writing lyrics to the chords right there on a scrap piece of paper.” Erin soon joined in on the writing process and they had their first song they had written together, called ‘Rusty Crushed Velvet Love Seat.’ The song is mostly about the experience of going over to Erin’s house, “Sweetlips” is the aforementioned smiling dog, “sprawling my case on the floor,” is Adam’s way of setting down his guitar case. “I started out writing the words, “I’m really where I’m at,” then was trying to figure out where I was at,” explains Erin, “when I looked at what I was sitting on and determined it’s description would be a Rusty Crushed Velvet Love Seat.” Listening to the song one can tell they were having a lot of fun and were maybe not completely sober. Erin and Adam who’d been friends for most of their lives soon had Marcus (Adam’s younger brother) and Alex join them to form Cradle. |
