Music Style Blues

Artist History Patrick Hazell started the Mother Blues Band in the Big 10 University town of Iowa City, Iowa in 1968, and the band quickly became one of the hottest acts in the state sharing concert billings with such bands as Led Zeppelin and the Jefferson Airplane. In subsequent years, with constant touring and concert billings with such musical luminaries as Muddy Waters, Tony Williams, Willie Dixon, and John Lee Hooker (to name a few) the band created a legendary status on the Midwestern music scene. By the late 1970s the Mother Blues Band was regularly touring an area stretching from Tulsa to Chicago, Kansas City and Saint Lous to Madison and Greenbay, with the upper Mississippi River Valley between Iowa and Illinois being its core area. Because there were not many blues bands on the road at that time, Patrick Hazell and the Mother Blues Band were music pioneers as they introduced countless Midwesterners to the blues. Many of the blues clubs and organizations that developed in the 1980s and 90s in the Midwest were started by people who gave that band a great amount of credit in creating their interest in the blues.
