Artist History
Mahavatar play heavy, dark, melodic, groove-based tribal sounds with a touch of Middle Eastern flavor that culminates into an indisputable energy. While creating powerful hooks with shape-shifting atmospherics and rhythmic punch, Mahavatar touches the soul, moves the body and forces the listener to ask,"What the @#*$%?" All songs stand out from each other and are highlighted by Karla's darkly aggressive groove-heavy guitar sound that sits atop a super-charged thunderous rhythm section provided by Peter on drums. Fronted by Lizza, a mesmerizing passionate force, whose voice goes down to the pits of hell only to resurface with hooks of melodic emotion... Mahavatar provide the answer to the question, "What is the future of sound"? With all members hailing from different parts of the globe, it's no wonder they stir the senses of all who dare to open their minds to the message of Mahavatar... |

Press Reviews
"Ponder for a moment the countless occurrences in which an original voice is unleashed when it's least expected. In underground metal there has always been abundance of such occurrences. It hasn't been long since these Manhattanites embarked on a journey into timeless eternity with "The Time Has Come". [With Demo 2000] Mahavatar's sense of direction has evolved rather well considering their brief period in existence. Despite recently endured hardships I'd recommend they stick to the fight, if only because their unique collectively shared vision speaks of great potential for maturity. The four unveiled examples of the capabilities of Lizza Hayson, Karla Williams and Peter Lobodzinski already show remarkable improvement. As before, a profound statement is delivered drawing from diverse wellsprings of inspiration. I was most drawn into the atmosphere forged by "Open Your Minds" and a recreated "The Time Has Come," steps in the right direction if they strive to clearly stand out from all other bands." --- Dave Wolff, Good Times | * / * \ * | "It's not often that a speed metal band catches my attention, but this one did Mahavatar are a young and very talented female fronted band led by an incredibly gorgeous young wench called Lizza Hayson from Israel. Mahavatar base their music on the heavier sound of metal. This demo features four pretty cool songs that start off with a strange song called 'BH' which reminds me of Slayer, Napalm Death and Tura Satana with hints of old school death metal. A good start that drops into 'Open Your Minds'. On this song we get to hear some chunky riffs from full on metal babe Karla Williams who comes from Jamaica. This lady can pour out some great stomping riffs and is a definite star to watch out for if your a fan of this genre, Coal Chamber, Kittie and Tarrie B. had better watch out as this girl delivers aggressive metal licks coupled with thrash and classic metal riffs which is enough for fans of all genres to enjoy. Track three 'The Time Has Come' is a moody and spooky atmospheric song, I love the production and feeling this song gives off, the bass work is especially interesting, a terrific song with power. The last song 'The E Song' launches itself into a frenzy of guitar shredding and modern day metal that is very rewarding and entertaining, there's a feeling of old school Megadeth and Napalm Death in the song which along with 'The Time Has Come' is my favorite track off the cd. All in all I'm very much into Mahavatar's music, they have huge potential for fans of the aforementioned genres. Seek and destroy!! Recommended. Rating: 8/10" --- Nicky Baldrian, Fireworks Magazine UK | * / * \ * | "Ok, usually I don't do reviews on a unsigned band anymore due to various reasons unless a band just really captures my attention and Mahavatar are one those bands. Mahavatar are a band from NY that plays aggressive metal with an edge. The edge is Lizza Hayzon with her aggressive and power vocals. The songs [of Demo 2000] are both catchy and memorable and not many unsigned bands have both qualities like that anymore. In ways she almost reminds me of oh I don't Janis Joplin possibly but with a much more metal sound to her. Along with Lizza is guitarist Karla Williams and drummer Peter Lobodzinski completing the line up. Mahavatar may be an unsigned band at the moment but at the rate they are going they may not be pretty soon. This band not only has the talent to make it to the big leagues but this band also can kick your ass." --- Glen Watson, Metal Domain | * / * \ * | "This is the first time I am revisiting a band for a demo review [Demo 2000]. It's not for lack of material to review, but more to reward and encourage persistence. I decided to take a walk to Downtime and see them perform again. They are a good band. Tight, heavy and sufficiently dramatic enough to hold my interest, I like what I heard.First things first, I had to find my old version of "The Time Has Come" to compare the two. I find the new version to be much better. The vocals are more dramatic and powerful. The mix is much better; you can hear the bass. The production is cleaner and tighter; there are backing vocals. Overall the new version is much more dynamic and listenable, although at 6:52 it tests your patience. Back to the beginning, the first song "BH" is good. It has a good groove to start the demo with and it has a pretty good chorus. The next track "Open Your Minds" has good staccato rhythm that drives the song forward and keeps me interested. Again, they have put another good chorus together with their riffs. Not to mention, Lizza can actually sing as well as grunt and growl. "The Time Has Come" takes the third position followed by "The E Song."? I am very happy to hear bands progress and grow. It sucks when you see a band and realize that they have good potential but their potential is not captured in their recordings. Mahavatar has a really good demo that highlights their strengths as musicians. The more I listen to it the more I look forward to their next gig. Finally, the artwork is really good. This groups pays attention to the details. Very impressive." --- Musashi, Metal Judgment |
