Artist History
Judith is pleased to announce the release of "Play of Light", their third full-length CD, which has been three years in the making. The band has undergone some recent lineup changes and has since reformed as a trio, with Christopher David as both vocalis t and guitarist, Damian James - bassist, and Brian Veit- drums. SOME BACKGROUND: If nothing else, they will see that we have moved on instead of rehashing the same sound. There is no use in living in the past!, said Christopher David, vocalist behind US band Judith, when asked for the umpteenth time about his connections to American legends Requiem In White. Eight months after RIWs demise, New York witnessed the birth of Judith. The band had started as a side project for Christopher David during the l ast years of Requiem, but seeing as Requiem was no more, Christopher had the time to pursue Judith as a serious project along with Mark Wagner (guitar), Damian James (bass) and Brian Veit (drums). One of the last "Nights of Misanthropy" at CBGB's was als o host to Judiths first live performance in New York. A year and a half later, having released their first CD "Föhn" and doing two small tours across Europe and the UK, the band released the "Sahara Seas" CDEP, scheduled to coincide with their appearanc e at the first Open Air Festival in Italy. Judiths second full-length CD, "La Rêveuse", was released at the Convergence Festival in the summer of 1998. Though they only played a limited amount of shows in support of this CD, Judith made up for their sparse live schedule of the previous year with a full 25-date US tour (the Blackout A.D. tour) during the summer of 1999.. |

Press Reviews
"... doesn't make you want to kill yourself or dress in black...[akin to] New Order, Type O
Negative, Pulp"--Alternative Press [Lowdown May 2002]
"Bringing back the '80s touch of darkness that made bands like The Smiths and Echo and the Bunnymen
enigmas in their day, NYC's Judith delivers a sincere
effort of gloom pop on "Play of Light," where the band's Goth synth style merges with Christopher David's
baritone voice, which comes across like that of Type O
Negative's Peter Steele at times and Peter Murphy in others..."--AltarNative.com
"...David turns his vocals to a richer, more flowing style on "La Bella", all guilt disappears and only pure
pleasure remains. This track focuses on a mid-tempo beat and contains enough heart-wrenching melody to make
black clad
women everywhere swoon. During "La Bella", David's guitar style
also steps beyond the darkwave traditions and comes closer to
Robert Smith's gorgeous work."--Splendid E-Zine
"Play "Air of Lovers" for your significant other and you may find yourselves happily between the
sheets."--hitsession.com
"It, [Play of Light], reminded me of Marilyn Manson on heroin and sleeping pills."--purpletights.com
"These songs are moody. But because the production avoided being heavy
handed and excessive, that's alright. The music and lyrics sell
the mood quite well. Well-conceived and executed."--A&A
"(Judith, Play of Light) I've been watching a bunch of "VH1 Classics" lately, getting all misty eyed, and here
comes Judith, sounding like all those big-guitar, deep-voiced bands like Echo and the Bunnymen, Ice House, et
al...And as much as it's nostalgia in me that likes the sound, the music is also good, big, ringing guitars,
melodious vocals, a touch of minor chords here and there. ...it fits together like a
fur-lined glove."--NY Rock Street Beat
"...[Christopher] David's heartfelt crooning and the band's
shimmering miasma make even the most florid sentiments sound darkly romantic."--Highbias.com
"The lyrics are extremely well done, the perfect mix of enigma and approachability. And the instrumental work
just blew me away, from chiming, shimmery guitars to roaring walls of sound, gentle shakers and tympani to
thundering shamanic drums, and always the bass sliding slow and smooth and sinuous beneath. Christopher
David's vocals also are extremely impressive, ranging from a low doomish growl to a higher, more poetic
delivery."--Ink19.com
"...the multiplicity of the trio's inspirations is what makes the album a good listen...Instrumentally,
[Christopher David] creates both spindly, wiry, and wired work [with a] more full-bodied crunch, while the
Damian James/Brian Veit rhythm section can and does kick up a crisp, loud noise..."--Allmusicguide.coms |
