Artist History
dvusMedia began as a side project of alt.cyberpunk.chatsubo. Taking on a life of its own, the project expanded to absorb a lot of free time. dvusMedia is the brainchild of joel hunter crook, an award winning composer / sound designer. Beginning his performing career before he graduated high school [in 1972], he performed with fellow high school senior, David Paich [later of Boz Scaggs and Toto] as part of a senior concert. As a singer/songwriter joel has written and copyrighted over thirty songs in musical genres as wide ranging as reggae, religious, country, pop, and rock. He has also composed and arranging 20 instrumental pieces [this is in addition to the "chatsubo", Sferic Conditioning" and "neterLand" CDs available here at mp3.com. He has performed at a number of local L.A. venues prior to beginning dvusMedia. It remainls to be seen whether he'll ever take dvusMedia on the road. Over the last eight years, joel has composed scores for numerous small theater productions. In 1999 he was awarded the L.A. Weekly 1999 Small Theater Production Design of the Year and the Valley Theater League's 1999 Artistic Director's Award for his Sound Design and Composition work for a "period" vampire play entitled "Tainted Blood". Joel has also done sound development work for ABC Online [though he doubts they remember it] and wrote and performed the theme for a television pilot ["My Secret Place" 1994]. Future projects may include composing / scoring for an independent film drama and an independent video "docu-drama" [we're waiting for them show us the footage]. |

Press Reviews
"a songwriter's songwriter" - kevin quinn [of course that was before we started doing this kind of music.] From a review of Chatsubo: "My rating is an 9 out of 10, an instant classic in my humble collection." - Mindkites " dvusMedia - music to make you learn!" - a Canadian Computer Science Student [and fan] "You're techno... and damn good techno too. So don't go worrying about which little sub-niche genre you fit into and Make The Damn Music." - An A.C.C. Critic. |
