Artist History
It all started back in the summer of 2000. Richard had just graduated from High School in Virginia and had moved out to Las Vegas to attend UNLV (University of Nevada Las Vegas). Richard left his band, "Only The Lonely", back in Virginia. Once he arrived he met up with long time friend, Craig Dennis. Craig had been playing bass for 6 months with Dave (guitarist) & Bobby (drummer). They played cover songs from bands like Green Day and Blink-182. In August of 2000 Richard & Craig had decided to start a punk rock band. One ingredient was missing though,...a drummer. On August 15th Craig asks Bobby to join the band, and Bobby accepts. The band thinks long and hard on a band name, and Richard decides to name the band, "Our Former Selves". In early September the band has its first complete band practice, playing covers from various punk bands. On September 19th the band completes its first original song, "Perfect Harmony". They record it on MiniDisk w/o lyrics because Richard is still Mic shy. The band decides to put a show on on December 29th in Richard's backyard, and call his backyard, "The Amphitheatre". Over the next few weeks the band practices hard. They decide to try and move the show to the "Movie Theatre" on Nellis Air Force Base, but that attempt fails because the "Movie Theatre" is for official government use only. After many agonizing days of wondering where they should hold the show, they get authorization to hold the show at the "Community Center". By early December the band has 6 original songs. Richard & Craig had been using small 10 watt and 25 watt amps during practices, and that power was not cutting it. In early December Richard & Craig's parents buy them both much more powerful amps. Richard gets a Fender Stage 100, which pumped out 400 watts. Craig gets a Ampeg SVT-350 Anniversary Series Head split into an Ampeg SVT-410 Anniversary Series Cabinet. On December 9th the band packed up their equipment into their Ford Expedition and headed over to the Community Center, where they set up the venue's, and their equipment to test out the levels on the soundboard. The day before the band's first show, they recorded 7 songs at the Community Center. That night Richard transfered the songs from his minidisk recorder to his computer harddrive, and then copied the songs to 50 CD's, for release the next day. On December 29th 2000, Our Former Selves played their first show ever. Since the show was on an Air Force Base, all of the guests had to be allowed access to enter the base, which caused the attendence to be only around 50 people. At the show they sold 33 of the 50 CD's which were made, and made a few bucks. After playing another show the band went into Tom Parham's studio on February 11th 2001 and recorded their first studio CD. The band had 4 hours of studio time to complete as much as they could do. They used 1 hour to set up the equipment, 1 hour to record the instrument tracks for the songs, 1/2 an hour to record the vocals, and the final 1 1/2 hours to finish mixing the CD. By the end of the day the band had a brand new great quality CD. |
