Artist description
Without a doubt, Faith is unlike any other band. Defying the stereotypes of genre, their critically acclaimed music has earned them a niche all their own in the New York City music scene. The trio line-up which solidified in 1994 consists of lead vocalist/bassist Felice Rosser, guitarist Naotaka "Nao" Hakamada, and drummer/vocalist Patrick Seacor, and has formed a musical style "unlike virtually any other sound outthere" (J. Lien-CMJ). Faith's soulcore sound is a sophisticated blend of psychedelic pop, trip-hop-reggae, and blues-soul; something like Nina Simone meets Jimi Hendrix and The Policethrough a modern beatbox. Notorious for cathartic live shows, the music often drifts into a meditative sonic frenzy, taking audiences along an exhilarating melodic joy ride;herein lies the seductive, sensual power of Faith. Both Felice Rosser's captivating androgynous vocals (yes, it's a woman singing) and a refreshingly diverse cultural line-up make Faith represent a viable interpretation of what is truly "alternative". Faith's debut recording effort "Time To Fall In Love" (Boom Boom Records),was honed by producers Andy Cox (English Beat/Fine Young Cannibals) and Fred Smith (Television). The record was released in 1997 and met with ecstatic response from fans and press alike. A national radio promotion campaign helped Faith expand their audience: 350 college radio stations (from Maine to Nevada to British Columbia) supported the CD, which generated significant traffic to the band's website (www.uprise.com) and created demand for the CD which is available through select retail stores, internet, and mail-order. Faith's unique, infectious sound has been praised by some of the toughest critics: the New York City press. Before the band even had a record out, Faith was featured in the Village Voice's "Rock & Roll Quarterly," boasting an unprecedented 7-page story. Other media attention Faith has received includes: a track ("Time To Fall In Love") on the soundtrack to "the Substitute 2" (HBO), a commercial appearance on Japanese television (broadcast in Tokyo and viewed by 25 million), a cameo on a Snapple ad, a feature on Ch. 13's "Planet Ludlow" for "City Arts" (a PBS current-events t.v. program), and on-air performances including WLIB 1190, WBAI 99.5 and WFMU 91.1. In addition, Patrick Seacor recently appeared on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" drumming behind Fred Schneider (B-52's). Faith performs frequently through the mid-Atlantic, building their die-hard fan base and will soon takethe music overseas where European interest has started to build. With the onset of the year 2000, Faith has decided to put the wheels in motion to offer their latest musical creation ( yet to be titled), but it will no doubt be a narrative of their cosmic musical evolution. |
