Artist History
With skills that cover all the bases, Bruce is the true No Holds Barred Musician. He grooves in any style and plays any instrument, acoustic or electronic. During the late 70's, Bruce formed the Casual Tease, a popular progressive downtown NYC punk band that pioneered the fusion of Jazz, Funk and Reggae into the emerging Punk Rock medium. Casual Tease was the 'house band' of Jim Fouratts famous NYCity nightclub 'Danceteria'. Casual Tease featured Lynn C. Smith on vocals, Beo Morales on guitar, Mio Morales on drums, Brooks Williams on synths, and Bruce on bass. Casual Tease also performed Freeform Jazz (at a much lower volume) in downtown jazz clubs. When Bruce moved to California in '89, he found no one to play his music with, so he decided to study classical piano and composition at the local community college. Finding compositional inspiration in the music of J.S.Bach, Bruce set out to apply Bach's formal devices to modern sonic playing fields. At first he tried to do this with dots on paper and trained musicians, but this soon proved to be frustrating and Bruce turned to his PC. Bruce actually plays, sings or speaks most of his sound material, but will use any source he needs to make music. For equipment he uses software vintage synths and drum machines, MIDI sequencers, Yamaha G5 piano and a Kawai K11. |
