    Press Reviews
I was warned by Uncle Dan before he sent me this CD - he said it's kind of rough, it's just me and my songs, etc. etc. etc. Well, he needn't have bothered--it sounds just fine to my ears! In fact, I thought it was a little TOO slick at first--luckily, the music is raunchy enough that no production job or digital technology could hold it back...why, the grease is practically dripping off the CD! The Cramps and the more trebly portion of the Crypt Records catalog are noticeable reference points, but there's a whole lot more going on here than a cheap imitation of the aforementioned reverb merchants - there are parts that remind me of everything from the Angry Samoans to ZZ Top to Bob Dylan, yet Uncle Dan retains his own personal sound. The songs are superb, too - they're the kind that don't hook you in right away, but burrow under your skin after a few listens and remain there, making you itch more and more every time you hear them... you know, the GOOD kind! My only complaint about the whole affair is that it doesn't sound "live" enough, due to the fact that Unca Dan plays all the instruments himself. He has already rectified this situation, and now has a band of fellow Arkansans behind him. Like I told the man himself, that was the only thing stopping him from ruling the world with his brand of garage-punk-swamp-boogie - global domination SHALL NOW COMMENCE! Another Exercise In Class & Sophistication (on a scale of 6) gets 4-1/2 squares outta me, hovering halfway between good and great. --Tim Lakritz/Trash Compactor
