Artist History In the studio and on the stage, Lisa's recent collaborations with award winning producers and musicians including, Loris Holland (Mariah Carey, Celine Dion), Keith Diamond (Mick Jagger, Donna Summer), David Greeenberg (Patti Rothberg), Mash (Dreamworks Records), Bernd Shopnart (Patti Austin, C&C Music Factory) and Andrew Sherman (Lalah Hathaway, Brandy) have lead her to the release of her first CD, Becoming-- 10 original songs twisted with pop, soul and a country twang that are grasping the attention of listeners far and wide; from college radio, to NPR, to Internet Radio and radio stations throughout the US, Europe, Russia and the United Kingdom. Lisa's talents were nurtured by her parents who were well-known songwriters in the 60's for top rate groovers like the Supremes, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, etc. Lisa began singing in her grandmother's kitchen archway as a toddler and started playing the piano, flute and clarinet a few years later. While studying drama at NYC's High School of Performing Arts, Lisa's flair for songwriting and performance began to flourish and these talents were added to her repertoire of commercials, plays and television credits. She then went on to pursue her talents in music at exclusive Bard College where she graduated with honors in Arranging and Composition and received the Larry McLeod Award in Jazz. It was there, nestled in the mountains of the Hudson Valley, where Lisa took up the guitar and became inspired by classic rockers like Jackson Browne, The Eagles, Carol King, Janis Joplin. "It wasn't long before I formed a country band with my good friend Rory Makem of the Makem Brothers called "Lisa Lisa and the Country Jam" - That's when I think my love for country music really began. We sang Patsy Cline, Hank Williams, Elvis, and many Irish folk songs that told such sad intriguing stories, but I never lost that Motown soul that I grew up with." After graduation Lisa moved back to New York City with mud on her boots submerging herself into the music scene with a style all her own - combining classic country folk with her childhood pop and soul inspirations. Lisa has just released a new EP called Three © 2001 and is working toward her second full lenth CD This Crickety Old House © 2001, this down home girl continues to play to packed venues from Bleecker Street to Sunset Boulevard, both with her five-piece band and solo acoustic captivating audiences with her compelling lyrics and valiant strides as a young, spirited new artist in today's music world.
