Press Reviews
Bruce Hotchkies ...a different point of view DAZE Records I'm at a bit of a disadvantage here, not beingfamiliar with Hotchkies material. I was pleasantlysurprised to find blues-rock a la The Black Crowes, albeit much more relaxed. I have to laugh though, in reading the liner notes it seems thatcomparisons between vocalist Kirk Jamesand Chris Robinson of the Black Croweshave been made more than once. The albumis a series of Hotchkies songs performedby a number of friends including theaforementioned James. It was intendedto showcase Hotchkies abilities as asongwriter, and that it does. ...adifferent point of view is impressiveas a collection of songs. Coupled withsome smart choices in vocalists (I loveNancy Rancourt's voice, its creamy goodnessis nearly the rival of Toronto's Janice Hagen-- Nancy's voice reminds me of her's) and morethan apt musicians, this was a pleasant surprise.- James McGarry "The Spill Magazine" - Toronto |
