Artist History
Formed in Philadelphia, dead susan used money generated from touring to record, master and press CDs for their latest 6 song EP (their 3rd release). It was added to radio May 2nd (4th most added Loud Rock in FMQB and Album Network, 5th most added in CMJ) and spins continue to increase. A full length CD will follow by December. Their debut EP was critically acclaimed in national and regional publications and generated a fair amount of indie and major label interest. The CD was distributed from New York to Virginia, and has since sold out its first and second pressings. dead susan's first full length CD, "the Odds Are Far From Even," received national college and commercial radio attention. It was the 4th most added record (July, 1997) in CMJ, FMQB, Gavin & Album Network and is still receiving spins. 3 of the songs from the CD were used extensively on MTV's Real World and Road Rules and "It Burns" was used in its entirety on ESPN2's Snowboarder TV. dead susan are members of ASCAP. They have opened for national acts like Creed, the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, the Goats, Stabbing Westward and D Generation. You can hear them on their CD and on radio stations throughout the country, but you MUST see them live to fully grasp the creativity and intensity of dead susan |

Press Reviews
LiveDead Susan at The Pontiac GrilleWell, they may not be as good as they think they are; but they're still pretty damn good. I think all of those girls in the front got to their heads. They opened up the set with a nice relaxed, somber melody; a nice way to get us all into the groove. Well, it got me into the groove anyway. The of girls up front who were there to get drunk and chitchat over the quiet parts of the set never really seemed to get into the music. I think they really got into the vocalist, Justin, though. By far, my favorite thing about Dead Susan was the incredibly disparate musical influences they show. I asked the guys to describe themselves before the show, and they couldn't really put themselves into a category. That's always a good thing in my opinion. I caught elements of Jane's Addiction, Rage Against the Machine, and Busta Rhymes. Yes, I said Busta Rhymes. They actually covered one of his songs, and did a brilliant job of it too. - Keith Roussil / philly2night.com "They display an intense energy and plenty of spirit. But what really sets them apart from the rest is a musical maturity not often found in young bands. From strong vocals, tight guitar play, solid drum beat, and thought provoking lyrics, dead susan sounded like a winner to me."- Uncle Mike (The 2 River Times, NJ) Definitely would be worth checking out live.- Rivet (Northern Virginia Rhythm, VA)The Odds Are Far From EvenI thought the lyrics to "Monkey in the Middle" were really great.- Tom Morello, Rage Against the MachineSmash-mouthed hard rock with a groove edge and metal undercurrent, this is a fiery first effort from this Pennsylvania act. Intense vocals in the Rage Against The Machine vein, but with very thought-provoking lyrics. The guitar work moves from gutt-wrenching rhythms to snarling solos, and the rhythms tandem drives the beats like a runaway dynamite truck.- Music Morsels, Marietta, GAIt sounds like dead susan fell to earth fully formed, landing like a meteor somewhere between Rage Against the Machine, Jane’s Addiction and Tool… this band is a lot of fun live.- Rockpile, Philadelphia , PA"Stare" is a real crowd pleaser…the most interesting track is "Transvestite Ritual"…"No Apparent Reason" is the track I most enjoyed from a completely sonic perspective.-Gleaner (Rutgers College Paper), Camden, NJdead susan - debut EP"dead susan achieves something all its own while still managing to plow the rich fields of the ever growing alternative nation." "...27 minutes of heavy guitar chunking, moody bass and searing vocals."- Allen M. Kelmer (Philly Rock Guide, PA) "This is just the sort of band major labels who are trying to be indie would sign"- Larry Kay (Philly Rock Guide, PA)"The music has a full, rich sound not unlike that explored by the Cult, but with a funky progressive edge. The Goth-accented vocals are high octane, with plenty of reverb, conviction, and energy."- Carol Schutzbank (MAPPS, PA) "The first album is raw, uncut and ready to cat, so pick up a slice of dead susan and give it a taste."- (University Reporter, PA)"They've been able to forge an original sound leaving their derivative roots behind. The musical arrangements are textured, dark and driven with a high intensity."- Carol Schutzbank (Big Shout, DE) "They have a very original, edgy sound, kind of a cross between the heavy, mercurial angst of Jane's and the buzzsaw pop of Nirvana."- Robert Makin (The Aquarian, NJ) "Particularly memorable is the last track, 'All Over Me,' as it is bitter, yet jubilant. This triumphant celebration of pessimism is one big, fat gothic-frolic. "- Jackie Enfield (The Aquarian, NJ)"This Philly-area band takes cool riff-laden, heavy Alterna-Rock and doses it with dramatic vocal style. Overall, these six songs are dynamic, somewhat enigmatic and show big potential.- Mike Breen (City Beat, OH)"I was very impressed. I eagerly await whatever new material they have, and would recommend this to anyone who loves a band with plenty of energy and the hard edge that personifies live rock ‘n' roll.- Jon Rubin (University Reporter, VA)"Hard edged fans, hard progressive and mature metal fans may want to devour the release package in a quick attempt to get it into a CD player where this release may stay for weeks."- The Local Magazine, VA |
