Press Reviews
"Step aside, Pansy Division. Chicago's, BOYS' ENTRANCE is gunning to become the leading voice in alterna-rockville. Brewing an eno-esque electro melody with jittery guitars and confrontational lyrics, the band playfully flirts with '80s New Wave nostalgia while taking a large musical leap forward. Not for the conservative at heart, this track is exemplary of a deliciously experimental albumn that deserves applause for its refusal to compromise in the name of big label bucks."- Larry Flick, BILLBOARD MAGAZINE, JULY 13, 1996"Cain takes a pause from his regular stint as the lead singer of the queer-rock outfit BOYS' ENTRANCE to concoct a solo tribute to Diana, Princess of Wales. His words are gratefully straightforward and clearly heartfelt, while a galloping beat provides nesessary urgency. Cain's tenor has a crackling intensity that leaves you wanting to hear more. Of equal interest is the additional cut, "Requiem", which was penned in memory of the late Freddie Mercury."- Larry Flick, BILLBOARD MAGAZINE, JANUARY, 17, 1998"This seven song mini-album (THE QUEER PUNK FOLDER) continues Tim Cain's tradition of melding classic glam-rock a la Roxy Music, Brian Eno, and T-Rex with more updated alternative and techno flavorings and sharp, funny, politically barbed lyrics."- Jim De Rogaitis, CHICAGO SUN TIMES, OCTOBER 1, 1999"B.E. have a sound that falls somewhere in between Eno, Devo, and NIN, with self-described "synth-glam, homocore" lyrics and attitude. This is a very good listen, whether you may be gay, and get a special meaning from the lyrics, or straight (like myself) and just like the music. The song 'Richard Don't Think" will delight Devo fans. Not a bad effort and very professional to boot."- ALTERNATIVE PRESS"The trippy electronic music draws you in from the beginning and you find yourself in a world that is definitely OUT there. But before you get too complacent, you find yourself surrounded by alternative rock guitar sounds and the voice of lead singer, Tim Cain. When you hear the cd you are well aware that you are in Tim's mindspace and no one else's. You can feel the queer vibe and it makes you want to either rock, dance, or screw. This is synthpop at its best, indulgent and approachable at the same time. Highly Recommended."- Daniel Jenkins, OUTVOICE"Originality and variety abounds on this album. Tim Cain has a sixth sense for music and it comes across perfectly clear on this album."- GMS Headbanger"They sound like David Bowie at his most flamboyant."- Illinois Entertainer"It sounds like T-Rex meets Bauhaus."- Chris Freeman, Pansy Division"An amalgamation of art rock and alternative styles resulting in a surprisingly enjoyable sound that is at once comfortably familiar and haltingly foreign. Tim Cain's voice is comparable to David Bowie's, Peter Murphy's, and Matt Johnsons, yet comparisons don't do it justice, because they are just stylistic references. Suffice it to say, Cain can sing. He can also write songs, many of whicj are hard to forget. A combination of sexy music and lyrics that can make a listener's ears burn."- Gregg Shapiro, Gay Chicago"Tim Cain's music is mesmerizing in its execution. He's managed to craft a sound that elevates each piece to high art, much the same way Jimmy Page turned raw Led Zepplin tracks (hard blues and acoustic gems) into sheer audio poetry. His self-styled "adventures in listening" include romps through glam rock, gothic, metal, alternative, and as-yet-to-be-named styles in rock. Very diverse, like our community."- Will Grega, OUTSOUNDS |
