Artist History
The song, "Such A Woman" reached number 26 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the early part of 1979 while the album, "Tycoon" peaked at number 41 in March of that same year. For the second album, "Turn Out The Lights," Mark Rivera reduced his involvement and appeared as a "guest player", Mike Braun replaced Richard Steinberg on drums, Keith Taylor replaced Michael Fonfara on keyboards, and Bobby Meassano brought his scorching guitar to the mix. * * * In spite of some great tunes on the second LP, Arista decided to release Tycoon from their contract - which gave the band free reign to write and record exactly what they really wanted. The result was six songs recorded in two studios - Media Sound NY & Atlantic Recording Studios NY - produced by Michael Barbiero. Of course, the band changed again for these sessions. Benji King from "Scandal" joined on keys and added his perfect high octave harmonies. And one of the best drummers in the world, Tico Torres (Bon Jovi) took over on percussion. Bobby Messano, Norman Mershon and Mark Kreider remained and the tightest five piece version of the band moved forward, creating the best recordings to date in 1982. * * * With the then-popular "new wave" bands hitting the charts, record companies became shy of the classic rock genre and in spite of the "in your face" hit rock'n'roll Tycoon was producing, the band found it extremely difficult to get another deal. Eventually everything dissapated and Tycoon got lost in the shuffle. But these six songs, presented here for the first time, survived. We hope you enjoy them. As you can tell from listening, we had a great time making them. * * * |
