    Artist description
    Precursor Productions is Canada's only School of Electronic Dance Music and Multimedia Sound Design. Located at 218 Marion Street in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, Precursor Productions is a cutting-edge electronic music training facility. Students receive instruction on state of the art computer software programs with hardware interfaces. We teach students how to set up and operate a virtual studio on a PC or Mac Computer. Our instructors specialize in urban and electronic dance music composition with special focus on the following genres: Techno - Acid - Trance - House - Breaks - Jungle/Drum & Bass - Hip Hop - R&B - Downtempo and Ambient. Students are taught the simplest and most direct methods to achieve the sound they are after. We streamline the training process so that you can focus on making music.

    Artist History
    We currently offer one certificate course in our program: Introduction to Electronic Dance Music Production. This is an intensive 42 credit hour course. It runs 7 weeks - 2 sessions per week, 3 hours per session. The course as a whole runs several times per year. All training occurs in our custom computer lab and studio. Each student is trained on a computer set up as a fully functional music workstation. Our courses are designed to get students writing tracks as soon as possible. Students who finish the certificate course will leave with a working knowledge of how to set up a virtual studio on their computer and use it to write professional music. In addition to the Electronic Dance Music Production program we offer a number of advanced workshops throughout the year. Current offerings include: Loop Based Music Production - Subtractive Synthesis - FM Synthesis - Advanced Engineering and Mastering Techniques - Drum & Bass Production Techniques - House Production Techniques - Trance Production Techniques - Hip-Hop/R&B Production Techniques. Custom training and hardware/software setup consultation are available upon request.
    Group Members
    Chris Wiebe (Owner/Instructor). Chris is a graduate of the Columbia Academy - Recording Arts program. He has been active as a composer, engineer, and performer. In addition to electronic composition skills, Chris specializes in live instrumentation. Since 1990, he has coordinated multiple musical projects involving live music, studio work, and advertising/film soundtracks across Canada. Chris is a member of FLFK, a live electronic dance act that performs in clubs across Canada and the U.S. Andrew Yankiwski (Owner/Instructor). Andrew is a lawyer and business owner as well as electronic musician. He currently is president of Forefront Education Inc., a Canada-wide law school preparation service, in addition to his co-ownership of Precursor Productions. Andrew has been composing, performing and engineering music since 1992. He has composed music for film projects and performing artists. Specializing in the more technical aspects of music production, he closely watches trends in the music industry. He has a keen interest in supporting new innovations and advising upcoming artists on legal and business aspects of the music industry. Andrew also performs as a member of FLFK. Joel Legris (Instructor/Research and Development Coordinator). Joel is a self-taught computer whiz and musician. His duties at Precursor Productions include set-up and maintenance of the network, computers and software. He keeps an ear to the Web and is constantly monitoring, evaluating and experimenting with new hardware, software and compositional methods. Joel also instructs courses in his own areas of specialty - subtractive synthesis and audio PC setup and design.
