Artist History Think of your favorite band. Now think of a better band. That second band you thought of....yea, that's underrated. Following several self-released albums and countless live shows, underrated has received the stamp of approval of plebians and luminaries alike, including Jason Giacomazzo of Your Day Strong, who recently professed underrated to be "talentless assholes". The band formed from the ashes of an ill-fated 8th grade alternative rock cover band, and has since mutated into a beast of its own. Started by Chris Baio (lead guitar/vocals) and Brian McCleery (drums/food consumption), the duo released a poorly recorded, poorly written, poorly performed, poorly sung and poorly played self-titled album under the moniker of Manufactured Dissident. That summer Chris met a kid named Andrew at the job they worked at. When Chris gave Andrew a copy of the Manufactured Dissident, Andrew decided to join the band. To this day they are not sure why Andrew would ever join a band after hearing that cd, but hey, things just happen that way sometimes. Anyways, the three musicians realized they had a knack for playing well together, but a poor name. Whilst recording their second full length, "The Dynasty of Liu Bang" (based on an inside joke), the fellows changed their name to underrated. The three played shows together for quite a while before recording the album, yet something seemed to be missing from the final product. Some of the songs did not really represent their live show and they decided to wait a while before recording another full length. That summer, the three recorded an ep "Girls Only" that they are very proud of. The 4 song cd contains "Too Pathetic", a favorite at live shows. Nonetheless, the three members got together and realized somethign was missing from their live shows: crazy guitar solos! Andrew knew some kid from his school named Alex, and the trio mutated into a quartet. This past summer, the four entered the studio to record "...and overpriced", the bands homage to general cheekiness. However, after months of sitting on the shelf, the full length was destroyed on the basis that it did not represent underrated's sound (aka it sounded bad) Recently bassist Andrew departed to achieve nationwide fame with the ska-punk band Daly's Gone Wrong. With a missing member underrated did the unthinkable: they re-entered the recording studio as a trio and recorded an EP. While much of the recording/production of the EP is incomplete, you can expect mp3's up by the beginning of February, and a release by early March. The band is also looking for a replacement bassist for Andrew. Despite the drama, monumental setbacks and a general lack of talent, the sky is the limit for the future of these bright young fellows.
