Artist History
The band's name is derived from the English translation of the 13th King of the ancient Mayan city of Copan. The band was formed in the fall of 1992 by bassist/guitarist Nathan Martz (originally from Dickinson ND) and vocalist Marc Dixon (Alexandria VA) in Washington DC.Baltimore native Glenn Meizlesh added his guitar licks a few months later in January 1993, and the trio began writing material and playing open mics in local area clubs. In March of 1993, the trio added Drummer Scott Kauffman (Greenbelt, MD) to the lineup. Kaufman departed the band in 1994. Drummer Mark Spivey (Suffolk VA) and guitarist Ben Shin (South Carolina) were added to the band in later part of 1994. After almost 2 years with the band Shin decided to attend Columabia Law School and left in 1996. Guitarist Paul Gonzalez (Boston MA) replaced Shin joining the band in the summer of 1996. The roster remain the same for almost 3 years, thenin June 1999, 18RABBIT sadly said goodbye to longtime friend and guitarist Glenn Meizlesh, and welcomed guitarist Ian Kach (Connecticut) to complete the group.18Rabbit released its first Independent CD in February 1996, entitled "New Breed of Other." The band is currently working on an EP adequately named "unfinished business" to be released sometime in the Fall of 2000. |
