Press Reviews
One of the most wonderful things to come out of the Halloween 2000 issue of "Brian Eno-esque? You Bet!" was a Russian bands "hit" song "New York, New York", where the male vocalist sings about his impressions of NYC in Russian -- and it was a big hit among Halloween partiers who didn't speak a word of Russian, including plenty of New Yorkers! It's just that the guy sang so expressively, you could catch just where he was coming from. This song represents a very different side of ELECTRIK than that sophisticated almost Bossa Nova-Rock fusion song, this tune is a bit closer to what I imagine a blues based rock band jamming in a garage in the summer of 1967 must have sounded like. The mix is rough, but it has.....well this may not be politically correct, but the only way I can express this is THIS TUNE HAS BALLS! These guys are into music to use everything they've got! And at this tempo, the somewhat heavy-handed blues-rock approach certainly does create a cool enough dance groove. These guys have the strong Spirit of Jimi Hendrix on their side...Let's see if a tune like this can jump over the language gap as well as the the more refined urban sophisticated flow of the "New York, New York" tune. |
