    Artist History
Anne Deming began her musical career in Green Bay, WI. It was during her high school years that she began writing and performing in the area as an acoustic artist. Performing as a solo artist and with small groups, Anne's performances were well received as demonstrated by winning several high school talent shows, playing live at a variety of events, placing third in the Green Bay "Battle of the Bands" competition, as well as other accomplishments. The successes in her hometown inspired her to pursue a career as a musician. Anne continued writing, recording, and performing her original material in the Chicago area while attending Northwestern University. Anne soon found herself with a growing fan base and increased popularity. After graduation, she decided to expand her musical career ambitions by moving to Minneapolis in the Summer of 1999. She is now performing here in the Twin Cities, an area known for its devotion to a diverse local music scene. Anne just finished her debut CD, entitled "Beautifully Scarred". The album features Anne playing 13 of her original songs-varying in style from acoustic rock, to folk, to blues. The album was released on Anne's own label ("Brutally Honest Records"). Along with promoting the album at her various gigs and through flyering outside of other area acoustic events, she had the opportunity to play songs from the album live on a recent edition of the KQ Homegrown show on KQRS. In addition, she is now part of the Best Buy "Find Em First" promotion, receiving regular airplay on the Point 104.1. Anne has been playing around the Twin Cities area for a while now at the 7th St. Entry, 400 Bar, Turf Club, Fine Line Music Cafe, and a variety of coffee shops. She has shared the stage with such artists as Marlee Macleod, Diginova, Melissa Ferrick, Brenda Weiler, Dan Bern, Amy Rigby, and the Embellishment. Don't arrive late, as the best may be over by the time the headliner hits the stage. . . . Deming, a relative newcomer to the scene, posses a gift for soaring melodies and a voice which moves gracefully through bluesy growls to clear tender passages. If she capitalizes on the promise of her debut, Beautifully Scarred, Deming will soon be a fixture among local singer-songwriters- Skyway News 8.14.2000(regarding Anne opening for Melissa Ferrick)written by Bill Snyder. . . . . . . . . . .Anne Deming is among the many acoustic rock/folk artists in the Twin Cities area. Quite honestly, this style is nothing that has not been heard countless times before. To stand out in this genre mostly dominated by solo guitar playing, you need a distinctive, better than average voice. Deming has it and it puts her well above the masses of mediocrity.Seductive and confessional are the adjectives that come to mind when describing these songs. Dealing with life, love, and accompanying emothions, Deming has a voice that would go over as well as any of the main acts at Lilith Fair. If the "sounds like" comparison must be made, I would say she comes close to a more angelic Natalie Merchant. Standout tracks include the blues oriented "Not The One" and "Talk Me Down", a track that nails the power and delicateness of Deming's voice and lyrics alike. Saving, arguably, the best for last, "Bring Me Happiness" is a gospel-flavored number sung a cappella. Kept tastefully short, it is a good sounding disc.So what do Natalie Merchant and Sarah MacLachlan have that Deming doesn't? A major label record deal. . .that's pretty much it.- Pulse of the Twin Cities 9.20.00written by David Rangel
