Artist History
Andrea (On-dray-uh) was born in Oberlin, Ohio and raised from 5 on in Austin, Texas by classical pianists. She tried to study piano in her youth, but was unable to tolerate lessons for various and sundry reasons, some of which were that she couldn't read music, hated recitals and would rather be catching tadpoles. She tore up her books and quit. Her love for music, however, blazed on. She was a Beatles fanatic from birth, having come into the world weeks after the release of Sgt.Pepper. The Beatles were the only pop entity whose recordings her parents had in the house. Thus her influences were limited to classical and the Beatles until she got her own radio around age 11. Instantly corrupted, she began listening to top 40 music in the late 70s. She then discovered punk, classic rock and alternative in the 80s. She listened to the Clash every bitter day of her high school life. In 1987 she got her first four-track and has been writing and recording ever since. Pathologically shy, she does not play live. She prefers to layer sound upon sound on tape. Andrea is a Leo. Fire, fire. Speaking of which, "Light My Fire" was #1 on the U.S. charts on the day of her birth. ("All You Need Is Love" was #1 in the U.K.) |
