Artist History
the.up.for.grabs.storyGetting noticed in the crowded Orange County rock scene isn’t easy this year. But check the line-up at any one of the hot local clubs and with any luck you can catch newcomer Up For Grabs playing behind the headliner… and the loyal (and vocal) group of fans that keeps getting larger at each show.Up For Grabs has been around for many years in one configuration or another, but last year they found the right blend of lyrics and melodies, then built a new sound on a distinctive foundation of solid rock. Founding members Alex Hovis (bass) and Pat Baker (guitar) are still crafting the kind of songs that set their hook in you in the first eight bars. But with the addition of newcomer Parker Case (drums) in 1999, the Up For Grabs "sound" snapped solidly into focus.Fans pack into Koos Cafe or Chain Reaction expecting to hear the live version of their recent demo "Say Anything New". But Up For Grabs rarely appears in the Southland without trying out another new dimension of their many musical talents… and never do they disappoint with new material. |
