    Press Reviews
"love the funky feel which sets these guys apart from other bands of their genre" Liz Barry (radio NZ) "...... a whirlwind of Celtic, Rock, Alternative and Dance influences... ..Imagine The Mekons let loose on Irish and Scots traditional forms and mix it with The Pogues musical clout ... and you have a rough idea of what Jacky Tar is about. Hear Defenestration and get the whole picture- this is a discovery." John O'Regan (FRoots magazine, UK, Dec 2001) Jacky Tar undoubtedly makes hip, funky rock n’ roll originals out of traditional Irish, Scottish and English folk songs. Their Celtic roots can quench a mead lovers thirst. ... - Jess Alridge (The Package Livescene Review, NZ, Dec 2002) "It's Wellington Anniversary, January 21, and the first day of summer. A groove emerges through the late afternoon heat as hundreds of reddening Wellingtonians bask by the sea at the Whopper Chopper festival. Soon, the loping rhythm section is accented with melody. Heads turn as acoustic guitar, banjo and Celtic pipes flesh out the sound. Gaelic dub, Irish groove, call it what you will, it's Jacky Tar, the most bottom heavy traditional group in the land....."NZ Musician February/March 2002 by Brian Gibson
