Artist History
Born out of the boredom of Midwestern life. The Cryogenic Strawberries formed around a mutual fondness for such bands as The Eels, The Flaming Lips, and Ween. In the spring of 2000, the freshly graduated trio of multi-instrumentalists Rev. Eddie DeSade, Josh Nelson, and the Casey Jones found themselves without good jobs, without girlfriends, and without a reason NOT to start a band. Now 3 years, and 3 albums later, the band that started because they had nothing better to do, have made a name for themselves. Shunning live shows, The Cryogenic Strawberries had to find alternative means of getting their music to possible fans. "Yeah, I'm a publicity whore." Admits Eddie (now the sole full-time member of the group) "Almost everything I do reeks of it." From postings on (Ames, IA's) BiFi Records message board to his label's alliance with Big Headed Man Productions. Eddie spends about as much time hyping his music, as making it. "I'm just trying to get that one song written, the one that I can sell to McDonalds, so I never have to work another day job again. I'm all about selling out." That might be true, but with The Cryogenic Strawberries' 3rd album, I Was A Teenage Commercial Failure, we find the group treading much darker territories than last year's, The Fantabulous Geek-Hop Con Job, from references to Hunter S. Thomson and The Oblongs, to Tom Waits and pornos. It would take a lot for McDonalds to be willing to listen to The Cryogenic Strawberries, let alone put them in a commercial. current members include: Casey Jones, Josh Nelson, and anyone else Eddie can drag into their studio kicking and screaming...
