Artist History
After an exodus from the decay of New York City to the vice ridden dungeons of San Francisco, across the wastelands of the northern regions, those who are now the core members of Corvus Corax gathered to converge their individual power into an intense force fueled by pure will. Operating outside and in spite of every imaginable facet of society, they survived and prospered as nomadic outlaws, exploring nature andexploiting the expendable. Through this, the nefarious clan matured and grew strong in both spirit and mind. Their skills and life views were refined independent and autonomous of any previous institution or subcultural scene. The demanding realities of such a calling proved to be too much for more fledgling members who either retired into more complacent ways, or were lost to the trappings of the cult’s extreme solitude. Yet, the visionaries behind Corvus Corax: Mallus Stormcrow, Johann Brån Cleereman, and Paul Martin pressed on without compromise, and thus the work of these adepts at last reveals itself. Having retrospectively composed pieces of more than 25 minutes in length, Corvus Corax are no strangers tothe kind of epic journey that their music now undertakes. The landscape of this traversal conjures many moods, ranging from melancholic atmospheres, bombastic thunder runs, to scenes of victory with one standing in lone grimness. Yet a common, dark thread weaves itself into every passage, as a wide variety of inspirations flow from the musical depths. It is powerfully mysterious, and undeniably alluring, hence the timelessness of "The Atavistic Triad." From the opening phrase "Every land is a brave man’s home," the trio charges into a battery of insightful expressions. The proverbialunderstandings of the raven kin reflect the threefold philosophy of the body, mind, and spirit, which essentially is Corvus Corax. Currentlyhailing from the dolorous forest of the Pacific Northwest, the occult bards continue to aviate into unchartered realms of the within and without, emerging strengthened in their ways of expression. This is reflected in the innovation and the creative diversity of Corvus Corax’s live performances, where theatrical processions and elaborate hand crafted props embellish the stage. It is certain that all endeavors of CorvusCorax will evolve into more grandiose proportions as film, slides, sculpture, further theatrics, dance, and other forms of multimedia and fine art becomeintegrated into the entirety of the band. Metal is simply a crude platform on which this entity shall freely grow. This mentality can also berecognized in already existing sister creations of Johann Brån Cleereman’s bombastic neo-classical and alchemically experimental project "The Red King," and in Mallus Stormcrow’s involvement with Anima Nocturna, which is a collective dedicated to the dark arts in visual andspiritual forms. Corvus Corax, in all aspects, will venture off the beaten path as much as possible, and hope to entice others along the way. |
