Press Reviews
(live) ††††
Having seen Myiasis, I felt as if I had to review them just so I could say, possibly the heaviest band in Seattle. If you dont want to feel as if you
have been desecrated and had your ear drums damaged, then stay home….Myiasis is not for you. Can you say Death Metal or Grind Core?
Fast, quick-changing songs with super tech guitars, bass, and drums. The new singer for Myiasis (that also plays guitar in Infernal Legion) is the
cherry on top of the sundae for this band. He has great stage presence and has a very intimidating persona which only adds to the daunting
girth of this band. Very progressive songwriting is taking place in this band, especially for a pretty much-unknown local band. When I saw them
play, they were extremely tight. If Nuclear Blast or Relapse comes hopping to Seattle, please point them to Myiasis. If you like very heavy music,
you will love them. Listen at your own risk.
Many albums start off slowly, easing you into it. This isn’t one of those. The first song, Outro, instantly pulls you in, making you wonder why you weren’t listening to it five minutes ago. The first thing that really stood out was the vocals (Doug Stern). He seems to have more intensity than your run-of-the-mill death metal low muttering. I think his talent may come from the fact that he’s also an experienced death metal guitarist, though not in this band. That experience gives you a better over all feel and understanding of the timing of the lyrics and what riffs to accent with vocals. The guitars flow like lava, extremely pit friendly, the drums are pummeling and the production is killer. Myiasis classifies this as a demo, but the tightness of each instrument and crystal clear production makes this recording superior to many big label bands’ efforts. This album is mid to fast paced true death metal, each song is full of relentless energy. The guitars are creative, knowing when to harmonize and when to throw in a squeal or two. I love the fact that there are different tempos, not just a straight blast, which can get pretty boring after three or four songs. There are plenty of catchy grooves, well timed breaks and yes, conveniently located punishing blast beats. Humannihilation, especially, is one of those tunes that stays in your head all day, same can be said for every song on the disc. I couldn‘t find a drop in the quality of the songs, each one is well written and perfectly executed. I am convinced that Myiasis has the song writing skills and professionalism it takes to secure their place as one of the top death metal bands in the near future. The only knock that I have on this cd is the packaging, I would have liked more artwork and the lyrics printed. However, this is considered a demo and you can‘t really fault them for that. I can’t wait to hear more from this brutal band and I’m sure there is more material coming. Myiasis is by far the best cd purchase I’ve made in 2002. I’m considering taking the rest of my cd collection back to the record store to demand a full refund.
