Artist History
"Felag" is an Arab word meaning "peasant" and "mengo" meansfugitive. Combining the two words produce the magical word, "flamenco". Themelting pot was Andalusia of the fifteenth century, the influences were theAndalusian Gypsies, Arabs, Indians, Jews and Byzantine (including Greeks andBulgarians). All these people had one thing in common, they were not RomanCatholics which made them common enemies of the ruling Spaniards. Thus theyall banded together and flamenco was formed as an art and philosophy oflife. This group fit very well with the description "felag-mengu".Jordano was born of a Bulgarian father and a gypsy mother inFlushing Queens New York on June 15th, 1961. Jordano's father was intent onmaking his son a concert pianist and his mother was intent on making himbecome a great painter.Jordano's idea was to become a guitarist and subsequently failed ateverything but the guitar. From the Society of the Four Arts in Palm Beachto the great Castle Series Concerts in Germany Jordano had amazed anddazzled people all over the world from Rome to Barcelona and Salzburg ToBelgrade. Jordano found an audience wherever he went from the streets andcafe's in Rome Munich and Salzburg or the concert hall in Berlin and Basil.Jordano says his three biggest musical influences were when he wastwelve playing in Harry Belafonte's aboard the Island Princess show andlearning that music was just one of the element which included dancing andhis charisma were the other two. When he was thirteen and befriended by El Curro (Jose Greco'sGuitarist) who encouraged him to continue his endeavors. And CeledonioRomero who put then President Jimmy Carter on the phone to hear him play.Celdonio's lesson was simple, enjoy the sound.Jordano's future projects include recording the Concerto De Aranjuezin the Flamenco Style with the Plovdiv Philharmonic. Jordano is currentlydoing the coffehouse scene in San Diego look for him in the Weekend Sectionof the San Diego Union Tribune and the Reader, maybe you can catch an upclose performance of the Aranjuez Concerto as his is known to perform itquite often on the circuit.Enjoy the sounds! |
