Artist History
Jeremy Strothers was born into a small, relatively poor family in Southeast Texas on May 1, 1977. “We were financially challenged,” Jeremy says smiling, “I was an only child for the better part of my childhood. I was always trying to get attention, and I wasn’t afraid to be the class clown or act out to get it.” Jeremy laughingly remembers these days and events in his youth as his first brushes with public performance. At age 18, with almost no experience writing, and absolutely no experience playing an instrument, Jeremy met a small group of musicians shortly after joining the Army. Jokingly sighting experience as a shower singer Jeremy was offered a position as the lead singer and lyricist in the part time camouflage rock band “Quatch”. It was in this band that Jeremy would learn to play and sing with the guitar. The band performed at a variety of venues in Europe and recorded a CD of all original music written or co-written by Jeremy and Quatch guitarist Nathan Yoast. “Strangely the brief experience our band experienced in Europe before it’s breakup in ‘98 was due in part to it’s members participation in the conflict in Bosnia in ‘97. The experience was the source of a lot of inspiration for all of us,” he says, “Besides, we were dirt broke and the extra pay financed our equipment.”Two years later Jeremy Strothers is 23, a sergeant in the Army and the proud author of a large group of original songs such as: “Like an Angel Loves God,” “Mother's Day,” and the gothic mid-evil power ballad, “The Corpse Within My Soul” .Jeremy attributes much of his modest success with writing to the experience he’s received playing in public as often as twice a week with the Cape Fear Songwriters Guild and the guidance he’s received from some of its members including President and Founder, regional performer Frank Hardwick. “Jeremy represents the best qualities in a songwriter and performer. His music is passionate, honest, and from the heart. His performances are always 110%.”Jeremy has been a member of the C.F.S.G. since its inception and can still be seen performing from week to week on Songwriter’s Mondays at Our Place or on Thurdays at Bowties Nightclub in the Holiday Inn Bordeaux. With the focus on his goals and the picture of his dreams getting clearer and sharper with each note played, Jeremy considers himself lucky to be where he is, doing what he is doing. “I feel fortunate, some people search their whole lives to find something that gives them the satisfaction that I find in every song I play. I just hope I can always be this lucky." |
