Lets just say I am wise beyond my years....

This is a John Lee Hooker, BB King, Muddy Waters, "'till death do us part thang!" A life without my guitar is like a life without oxygen..."
Additional info: "Animal lover and tree hugger, baby!"
Motto to live by: "It doesn't matter what other people say, it only matters what you believe." - Grant Young 2002..................OK, HERE IS THE SERIOUS BIO..................GRANT YOUNG is a Canadian singer/songwriter, based out of Toronto, who plays and writes guitar-rock music with modern-day lyrics. His music can be classified in the classic guitar-rock genre with roots in the styles of Led Zeppelin and Van Halen. He was born in Lachine, Quebec and grew up with one older brother in Mississauga, (The suburbs of Toronto), Ontario, Canada. "Ever since I was 8 years old, I have always had a passion, if not an obsession, for playing the guitar. Music has always come first for me ever since. I love to escape from this chaotic world and dive into a different realm of consciousness. I love that feeling. It's almost a spiritual state of mind where everything is at peace." Grant Young is a self-taught musician who did live in Hollywood, Ca. for a while and attended a performing arts school called Musicians Institute. "A music career has always been a huge struggle for me. (Nothing worthwhile ever comes easy!). I have always had to work blue-collar jobs by day and then try to write, play and practice by night. Anyone else who has had to live like this knows how tough and exhausting a lifestyle this can be, (but it can also be very rewarding in the end I think). I feel that music is a special language that we all can relate to. I also think that recorded music is a way of becoming immortal like Mozart, Bach or Hendrix. The body might die but your soul can and will live on, forever, in your written and recorded music." For more info goto The Official Grant Young Web Site at www.grantyoung.com.

Artist History
Grant Young was born in Lachine, Quebec. His family moved to Mississauga, Ontario, (20 minutes west of Toronto, Canada), when he was around 5 years old. He began playing the guitar when he was around 8 years old. He begged his father to get him one for Christmas because he was tired of playing a tennis racket as a guitar! "For me, playing the guitar has been more than a passion. It's been more like an obsession!" Mostly a self-taught musician from books, jams, improvisation and TONS of listening, Grant has taught himself how to play the guitar, bass and drums. His first CD, "Life is a Journey...Not a Destination", showcases his talents. Grant did attend a performing arts school called MUSICIANS INSTITUTE in Hollywood CA. back in the 1990's to try and expand upon his knowledge of the instrument but has found that the school of hard knocks can teach you things you cannot learn in school. Grant's influences range from Classical to Rock to Jazz to Blues and even New Country but sites The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, Pink Floyd, Joe Satriani and Steve Vai as major influences. Grant played briefly with some unknown bands in the early 90's, (including TELLTALE and ULTRA WIRE), but these bands didn't stay together for more than a couple of rehearsals or a couple of weekend gigs. "Throughout my life, I've always searched to have a consistent band with people who would add their own "little flavour" to each song. Over the years though, I've found it harder and harder to find the right personalities and musicianship that I've been looking for. (Too many jammers and screamers and not enough "song" people)." Grant spent most of the 90's writing, playing, practicing, jamming and recording. "I used to be content just writing and playing music for myself (a singing bird does not ask if his song is pretty) but now, with the new technology of today, it is possible to release music without the help of a major record label so I want to get it out there for anyone who also likes this stuff. " Grant upgraded his home studio from a 4-track to an 8-track recording studio in January of 1999 to record his musical ideas on so he could show his ideas to other musicians and start a new band. After recording this stuff on his own Grant decided, "What the hell. Why not release it and just call it an independent release?" The official release of "Life Is A Journey...Not A Destination" was scheduled for the fall of 2000 and is now available. A new CD titled "Access Denied", with 9 new songs, will be released in March 2001. A tour with a new band will follow soon. |

Group Members
Like Prince or Lenny Kravitz, Grant likes to record all the instruments on his own first and then bring other members in for the live shows. He has a "complete" idea on what he wants on each song so to save a lot of headaches in trying to explain "what" he is looking for, it is easier to just DIY. "I tend to get bored easily, so I like to create a new band for every project to keep things interesting. At the moment, I am recording all of the bass, drums, guitars and vocals on my own first and then teaching others the music for the live performances." |

"Classic Guitar-Rock lives!!" - Guitar Rock Cafe Radio."His vocals remind me of Bryan Adams and Jakob Dylan." - Guitar, Basses and Drums...OH MY!! Radio. To call Grant a genius might be an understatement. His music doesn't cater to current trends, target audiences or marketing gimmicks. He plays from his heart and makes real music. Grant is a musical prodigy and on 'Life is a Journey...Not a Destination' he shows "THE" world "HIS" world.
New Yorker E-Music Review
Finally, after all these years of depressing, grunge music
and boring riffs, someone is writing some songs about beer,
women and partying with cool guitar riffs.
Kirk Cobain... may he rest in peace.
Long live Grant Young.

FLAWLESS FINGERS
Ever since Grant was 12 years old, he knew what he was meant to do for the rest of his life. Play the guitar. Over the years he has evolved into an outstanding songwriter and musician. He still continues, to this day, with his lifelong, love affair with the guitar.
Grant has spent countless hours practicing and learning other peoples music so that his writing would evolve into his own unique brand of music. Learning songs from The Beatles to Led Zeppelin to Van Halen has definitely helped Grant's songwriting craft.
How does he classify his music? In response to all of the vocal bands of today taking the spotlight on radio and video, he likes to call his music "Underground Rock". His first 2 CD's, "Life is a Journey...Not a Destination" and "Access Denied", showcase his songwriting skills and musical talent.
Grant is taking a huge risk by going down a road that only virtuosos like Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix dare to explore. He is singing all the songs while playing the only guitar in the band. (Including all solos!).
His risk taking continues by performing guitar rock music in this time of pre-processed, manufactured, homogenized and choreographed, boy-band hysteria. He is actually a rare breed these days. A guy who writes his own music and plays his own instruments! Wow, what a novel concept.
From his unique guitar licks to his cleaver song lyrics to some of his humourous song titles like "Baby, Your Cavity Needs Fillin'" and "Where's My Roadie", Grant Young shows us on his first 2 CD's that he is an extremely versatile songwriter. He is capable of writing many different styles of music. From the up tempo first track, "I'm Fallin' For You", on LIAJ...NAD to the soft, acoustic second track. "I Keep On Running Back To You", to the electric guitar solo, "Goin' Postal", to the blues song, "I've Got The Blues For You", to the flamenco instrumental, "The Spanish Sunset Express 101", we know that we are in for an unpredictable journey through the mind and experiences of Grant Young.
Grant's struggle of day jobs to pay the bills and music at night is starting to pay off with these two new CD's of his. All of his time spent learning the craft of songwriting and his knowledge of playing all the instruments from guitar to bass to drums and percussion is only rivaled by his new knowledge of the recording process. The life long struggle is coming together.
Grant writes from the heart about experiences from life to liquor to love. (The three big L's!) His songs are guitar-rock songs based on modern day lyrics with a guitar style reminiscent of Eddie Van Halen meets Jimmy Page with vocals in the style of a Bryan Adams or Jakob Dylan.
A truely independent artist, (Grant has turned down offers from labels and in turn has created his own label Colossally Vivid Records.), Grant has taken charge of all aspects of his musical career. He has learned from artists like Frank Zappa and Steve Vai on how to guide a successful musical career from the ground up. With his second release in 2001, ("Access Denied"), Grant Young is emerging as a dominant artist of our times who is leading the way in underground rock music.
"I think the fans expect an artist to stay true to themselves and staying as an independent helps me stay in my own head. I like that there isn't a major label pushing me to write TOP 40 hits all the time or be part of the next boy band craze. If I sell 1 CD or 1 million, I will be happy as long as I keep releasing what I like."
Grant adds, "It has definitely not been easy as an independent artist. You really have to pay attention to the bottom line in all of your expenses. Personally and business wise. That is probably why it has taken me more than a few years to get here. It takes a lotta cash to get into the music game! But, As long as I have a car and guitar I feel freedom!!"
