    Artist description
David Peachey has been living and performing in Brisbane, Australia, since 1995, yet began his musical odyssey six years before. He has performed at a number of different venues, from artsy cafes to hotel backroom thrashfests. His style is best described as ‘Dark Pop-Folk’; a combination of acoustic creativity plus lyrics drawn from the darker vein of experience. A multi-talented and self taught musician, David Peachey has written over one hundred songs, including a musical, and has been described as similar to Nick Drake, Jeff Buckley, REM, and The Cure.David independently released his debut EP, Saving Up for a Rainy Babe, in November 1998. Although only five songs in length, the EP manages to cover a wide range of lyrical and musical content, moving from the torporific frustration of the middle-eastern/grunge "Eternal Drift" to the vibrant cynicism of rock-ballad "Wasted Day", to the sweet-yet-confused love story of the title track, "Saving Up for a Rainy Babe".Saving Up for a Rainy Babe has been played on radio stations across all of Australia, as well as overseas in the UK, USA, Belize and even Romania! The EP has received highly favorable reviews, being described as a recording which "has far surpassed (his) rather modest sketch" [The Scene] with "some superb artistic expression. Eight out of Ten." Described as Dark Pop-Folk, the recent release from David Peachey is just that, but quite a lot more. To try and put into words just how this EP sounds is a task I wish wasn't mine. Compared to REM and Jeff Buckley, David Peachey's writing goes far deeper and more complex than the artists mentioned more of a medieval sound. Not to say his music is out dated, but I guess, to say it is timeless would not be a lie either. It will take a certain audience to really understand David's music although just about anyone or any age group can appreciate his talent and hard work as a musician. Lyrically the songs are somewhat dark edged, quite morbid to say the least, makes one wonder what sort of world David perceives this earth to be? Fortunately the musicianship isn't emotionally drowning, quite the opposite really, very uplifting and totally enjoyable. David Peachey has over 100 songs currently written so in essence this five track EP is only a sample of an immense amount of material, which hopefully will soon see the light of day. If you have a love of folk-pop music or modern medieval music then check out this solo artist and really sink your teeth into some superb artistic expression.
