Press Reviews
"In anticipation of a full-length album later in the year, local artist Reymus has released a 4-track EP, providinginterested listeners a taste of things to come. The four songs showcase both Reymus' influences (sometimes blatantly), andhis talent for digesting and synthesizing those influences into charming bits of originality. The disc opens with "When Cats," the musical equivalent of jelly beans. That Reymus avails himself of a drum machine thatperpetually sounds like a drum machine doesn't help things, but the clean, poppy guitars and artsy-geek vocals (thinkFountains of Wayne) add some charm to the equation. "Promise" finds Reymus channeling Weezer, and "Do the Zee" againreferences Fountains of Wayne, complete with keyboard riffs and highly danceable beat. The disc saves the best for last with "Feelin'," combining an invitingly soft and sweet verse with a thickening chorus andnicely arranged lead work. Notwithstanding the unnecessary Beck-like outro, it's a great piece of songwriting and LemonMeringue Die's most creative and engaging moment." David Troupes, Massachusetts Daily Collegian--------- "I'm liking this. It has some nice little Mr. Mister/Crowded House feel to it, way to go." Andrew S. Kyte (French horn major at New England Conservatory) ----- "Hey, did you finish recording the one I like?" Vin D'Agostino (of Ruby Dune)------ "Your new version of Do the Zee sucks. The keyboard at the end is nice, but in the middle it makes it sound way too mellow and draggy, like a funeral parlor." Saragrace Hendren (theatre major at Guilford College)----- "You got this tired/mellow/depressed rock star singer thing going on now - even in your happy songs. But it works." Kara Price (English major at Guilford College)--------"Do the zee is super excellent. I love the keyboardey thing at the end. As is Feelin', I almost peed myself at the end of that one. Its the best drum solo I've ever heard. I should get another copy of the first Ian Brown album, its full of stuff like that, only I think he was serious. I like the first when cats better, I get distracted by the extra funky bass drum beat. Also, your cover of "volcano girls" kicks ass." Bradley Mehlenbacher (drummer, Eight Million Horseshoehead) |
