Artist History
Efree, an underground trance music project, was founded during the year 2000 by one guy called Kjetil. As a musician with roots in both jazz, pop and rock he went into the trance-world. As total new bee he started out making his music using a computer, a midi keyboard and the famous noise generating, Pulsar Soundcard.
One day in August 2000 Kjetil where browsing around the net for new music and by a pure coincidence or most probably luck he found mp3.com. After scanning the site for about an hour he decided to put his own tracks on the site and give it a shot as this is and was a free service at this site. He signed up on the site, uploaded a few tracks and kicked back for a while. The feedback he got from people that heard his tracks out overwhelmed him and he just couldn't believe that he actually had fans listening and enjoying his music! Just the thought of people downloading and actually listening to his tracks over and over again made him so happy that you probably can't describe his feelings in words. Somehow one of his tracks ("Imagine") climbed to position No.1 on the MP3.com Progressive Trance Top 40 chart after just a few weeks on the site. Now he started to take the music he made more serious as he realized that there was more than just music downloads in this.
On the night of January 26, 2001 Kjetil finished a new track called "World Project". At that point he could`t imagine what that 3 minute piece of music would do to his name or his live for that matter. His kind of thought that the track was a pretty fair one, neither good or bad, just fair. The track gave some really serious feedback from listeners through mp3.com and it was a pure rocket on the MP3.com top charts! It didn't take more than a week before the track entered the MP3.com Progressive Trance Top 40 chart! A total breakthrough in the now shaping history of this band.
After using the synth a while and also learning how to handle Steinberg Cubase Audio VST he decided to send out his first demo. After all, MP3.com was the largest free mp3 site in the world and he was on the 2`nd place on the Progressive Trance site with "World Project". Efree released the first CD through MP3.com called "World Project" February 17 2001. The CD isn`t really anything more than just a DEMO CD containing 5 tracks that still was free to download. The CD itself wasn't meant to gain any profit, it was more of a funny thing to do. Kjetil was really amazed when he noticed that the CD actually sold considering that the tracks on the CD was free to download. Kjetil made a deal with a small record label, Cyberiam Records, helping him with exposure, public and so on.
During the winter 2001, Efree released new tracks on the mp3.com and added them to the CD. Record labels all around the world started to contact him, giving him cheap offers but some how he managed to stay focused and turned the offers down one by one. But Efree got the songs played in radio and TV shows over the world.
