Artist description
The Firetones play" rock & roll" , and they play it better than anyone has in a long while. We don't mean "rock & roll" in general. We mean ROCK & ROLL, in the tradition of Chuck Berry and the early Rolling Stones. As the lead singer, Rod Firestone, puts it: " We're on a crusade to save the world from itself. Rock & roll may go of the way of the whales and pinball if we don't save it." Rod Firestone, a Midwest boy, started the Firetones after his previous band - The Rubber City Rebels - called it quits in 1982. The Rebels were one of the first new-wave American outfits to spring up after the Sex Pistols exploded on the scene in 1975. Rod hopes that his new band can give the same kind of impact that the Pistols did, by getting some excitement and fun back in rock music. Besides Rod, who sings lead and plays a solid rocking-rhythm guitar, The Firetones boast one of the worlds greatest rock & roll axe-men, Johnny Lyon. Johnny, a Floridian by way of Memphis Tennessee, is one of those southern boys who was weaned on guitar. On stage, he plays with such energy, you have to see it to believe it. Filling out the line-up is one hell of a rhythm section. Randy Rice on bass and Russell "Batman" Battelene on drums. Randy is also from The Rubber City Rebels and Batman played in Johnny's band- The Hitmakers. |
