Artist description
Guitarist Mary Letchworth and drummer Tess Jackson met in 1995 when Tess joined "MissFire", a popular all-female act. After MissFire dissolved in 1996, the pair wanted to maintain the fire & passion they had discovered in each others' talents and formed Society's Child in November, 1996. In addition to the group, Tess & Mary perform as an acoustic duo as well.
'Guitar powered, melody driven rock songs' describes the music written by Letchworth & Jackson. The songs begin with a solid foundation of hard rock & blues, and have been known to delve into other styles such as country and funk. This special brand of 'retro rock' is layered with metaphoric lyrics and infectious melodies & harmonies. This female duo blend their contrasting vocal styles together, which adds texture and intensity to the material. Audiences connect with this intensity, as well as the emotion of the lyrics & music.

Press Reviews
Society's Child have that hard rock thing going, sort of like Vixen, Benatar, Heart, The Motels and many of the hard rock bands of that style in the 80's. Though these comparisons to these artists are close, the actuality is that Society's Child has a very unique flavor all their own. This is a band that uses a lot of great guitar rock enthusiasm to generate their sound. This music is very powerful and energetic with a style and substance that won't soon be forgotten. The rock influences of this music is very diverse which makes the sound very difficult to peg down to any one artist or band. Society's Child exchanges vocals on a few of the songs on this album, but most remain predominantly female fronted. The songs are excellent works of rock 'n roll passion and are mainly guitar based kick ass rock songs. The songwriting is very rock based which utilizes simplistic lyrical styles that are the perfect ingredients for any hit song. The song "Desire" has a definite rock power that reminds me of the band Vixen, but with more of a virtuous guitar edge. The catchy riff of this song is what caught my attention the most, but the melody as a whole works to fan the flames. Society's Child is a band that will not disappoint and their hard rock style is sure to attract a lot of music fans to join them on their rocket ride of explosive rock 'n roll. - Michael Allison - THEGLOBALMUSE.COM |
