Artist description
Here comes a band for you guys, that's a close to today's stoner-movement as it is to the rockers that kinda started the ROCK REVOLUTION way back in the sixties. PAYOLA doesn't care if you name them ZEPPELIN, STEPPENWOLF or STONES, STOOGES or HAWKWIND. Of course the bunch o' guys grew up in the 80s and their hereos have name such as THE CULT and SAINT VITUS. PAYOLA is a band that hasn't been kisses by the goddess of luck - they work their way. They work as hard, but even harder the ROCK!! |

Artist History
It took some time until things actually developed to the actual state. In this long, dry & hot summer of 1996, the four guys got together in a rehearsal space in Hanover's suburbia playing extended sessions until they kinda fell over of thirst. So PAYOLA was not really founded, but emerged out of these summer-jams. After their first, self-made album they got picked up by loudsprecher in the spring of 1998 and in autumn '98 their 2nd album "Horror Risin' At The Horizon" was elected "Beauty of the Issue" (best album) by German music-mag. VISIONS. The four-piece kept playing shows in and around their home-town 'till they started out for this month of touring in March 1999, together with their fellow-bands SISSIES and SMOKE BLOW (watch out for this great 10-inch "The Good, The Bad & The Ugly" featuring rare tracks by all three bands).Seen from today's standpoint this was part one of the history - which actually didn't find it's continuation when singer TIMO left the group shortly before the end of the above mentioned tour. Fortunately NICO, the singer of the SISSIES, joined in to help out. After the last show & as things went really well, Mr. NICO KOZIK stayed in Hanover for another week or two of playing with PAYOLA. About 10 days after the split, PAYOLA & NICO KOZIK recorded the 10-inch "Big Bold Tennis At Wartime", which came out in June 1999 and made the critics freak out. Now, one year later PAYOLA comes up with the third album "For Those Who Know"!! Once again they took it a step higher! This album is a classic, an real masterpiece of pure Rock. This is the cross between STONES, AC/DC, FREE and the NEW YORK DOLLS. It has this little stadium-Rock-attitude, a bit of a Glam-factor and - most important - it kicks butt! |
