Artist History
Matthew Niblock is the author of GOD THE MOTION PICTURE (1994, Dance of the Iguana Press), HELLO MY NAME IS ABERDEEN (1996, Inevitable Press), DRINK ME (with Amelie Frank, 1997, Valley Contemporary Poets Press), THE DEAD ZOO (1998, Cassowarry Press) and PAT BENATAR MEDLEY (2000, Inevitable Press). His work has been published widely in literary journals and anthologies, including Caffeine Magazine, Speakeasy, Sheila-na-Gig, the Los Angeles Times, Scream When You Burn, 51%, many more. Once, Matthew was actually banned in Boston. He co-founded The Sacred Beverage Press with poet Amelie Frank in 1994. They produced the award-winning literary journal BLUE SATELLITE for 6 years, and edited & published & books by Erica Erdman, Jeannette Clough, Nelson Gary, Ellyn Maybe, the Carma Bums, Richard Osborn Hood, francEyE, Elliott Baker, more. Their Carma Bums book TWISTED CADILLAC is now on the required reading list in English: Beat Studies at Loyola Marymount University. Matthew Niblock is the recipient of the Allen J. Freedman Poetry Prize for his poem. "Zoo Metaphors, " and he has been twice been nominated for the Pushcart Prize. He was a member of the 1998 semi-finalist Venice Beach Team at the National Poetry Slam in Austin, and has toured throughout the U.S., performing spoken word, as a backing vocalist for performance poet June Melby, and with his bands, first The Clear, and more recently, superman loses the girl again. His spoken word/audiocollage/improvisational music performance cassette-only releases THE HOUSE I LIVE IN, FILM SCHOOL, and VOICEBOX have received critical praise in the performance press, and have been widely sold and (more than occasionally) bootlegged. Now available for the first time on DAM CD: GOD THE MOTION PICTURE (previously released as WATER) featuring Casey Arrillaga (Chapman Stick & percussion), Anna Ferraro (piano), Tracy Thielen (autoharp & guitar), Rich Ferguson (drums), Cliff Ulrich (guitar, harmonica, vocals), Kira Arrillaga (vocals) & Matthew Niblock (text, vocals, percussion), more.
