Artist History Guitarist, singer and songwriter José León owes much of his musical development to his unusual family origins. Brought up in an environment where he was exposed from an early age to the Flamenco of his father’s native Spain and the music of his mother’s birthplace India, he absorbed all he heard including music popular in the UK where he has spent most of his life. Profoundly influenced and taught by his uncle Antonio who is a professional Flamenco guitarist, he went on to study further with guitar teachers in Madrid and Córdoba. He also gained valuable experience spending time in India with his family and by performing in Antigua and Barcelona. In recent years he has fronted a 7-piece Latin band playing in Dubai, France and the UK as well as singing and playing guitar with a large Flamenco ensemble and leading his own 5-piece Latin band called Sol y Sombra. He also works as a session musician particularly where an authentic Latin or Funk feel is needed playing both acoustic and electric guitars. Now living in Brighton he is currently working hard on his solo album blending all his diverse influences and also collaborating with his sister Anna (a Flamenco dancer) on their group Corazón Flamenco.
