    Artist History
Writ on Water began as the recording project of Jeff MacKey and Daniel Johnson; Joel Hughes soon joined as the drummer; Miles Williams was later added as a second guitarist; released "Sylph" in December, 1992; Joel and Miles left the band to pursue other interests in 1993 while Jeff and Dan worked on a demo project entitled "The Greyest Day," which was eventually released in demo form as "The Greyest Day Sessions" via mp3.com in September, 1999. After an extended hiatus, the recording project resumed in Autumn of 1999 with the two original members. This initial recording session culminated in the release of 'Pelleas' (an EP containing six tracks written in '92-94 and recorded in '99/00) via mp3.com in July of 2000. Writ on Water is currently recording an album of new material for a projected release in September/October of 2001.

    Press Reviews
Opuszine, September 15, 1999: Review of 'Sylph' "...one of the best post-punk records I've ever heard. Perfectly blending the edginess of Joy Division with the somber atmospheres of The Cure a la "Faith" or "Disintegration," it's a shame that this album has not been more widely acclaimed than it has. Other comparisons include shoegazing bands like Pale Saints, as well as the classic 4AD sound, back when they were putting out stuff like This Mortal Coil....As a whole, the album is very beautiful, in a dark way that doesn't come off as being 'woe is me' or existentially nonsensical. Very nice."
