Artist description
SwitchGear is a one man orchestra using a little gear in a little bedroom on the west coast. The main goal of SwitchGear is to make great music. And in my opinion I'm getting there. I've been into electronic music just over 4 years now and I have found a style which Im quite comfortable with. SwitchGear uses a whole array of gear but its small and easy to transport. These songs are made on all the gear on my homepage. I look forward to your feedback and I hope you enjoy the songs. |

Musical Influences
My musical influences are varied. In the early 90's I was most influenced by Enya and other "New Age" artists as well as the likes of FSOL and orbital in the latter. Recently, much of my influence comes from artists like The Orb, Richie Hawtin, Oliver Lieb, BT, The Art of Trance and the scene in Victoria |

Similar Artists
In my opinion, SwitchGear has quite a distinct sound. If you are looking for a comparison The Orb, Paul Van Dyk, Oliver Lieb (Paragliders,LSG) and Chicane are definite influences. |

Artist History
Based in Victoria, BC,Switchgear was formed on September '97 following "Psionix Ionix", a MOD alias I used to make Protracker music on the Amiga. I had been working on "Mods" (sample based, 4 channel music) for about 3 years before the formation of SwitchGear and finally switched "group" names on the advent of the QY-70 (a portable MIDI sequencer/synth). Having had band lessons on the tenor sax, I had a little musical knowledge and could readily sight read sheet music. With the musical experience of band and the tracking experience of Protracker, I decided that MIDI was the path I shoudl follow.Starting with only a QY-70, I started to track at coffee shops and other such relaxing places. I began to accrue more and more gear and the production levels went up dramatically. The Songs on this site are recent endeavours (my old stuff? Well, it was practice) Now I have a range of small, portable gear and hope to bo pogoing aroundall the clubs and raves in Victoria within the next year. I am currently making enough tracks to fill a CD; However, I have promos, stickers, and a pretty spiffy website (along with the one you're looking at).So it back and listen to some tracks and read my formal Bio on my webpage for more "411". :) |
