Artist History
This is the equation of the fresh crossover-8-man band built
around the singer Frank Liesener that generates an explosive
mix. Modesty is not their thing:
they draw on elements of cool jazz, hip hop and reggae,
without restraint, in order to present these to the unsuspecting
listeners with the versatility of a chameleon.
Shortly after forming in '97, the band from Mühlheim upon
the river Ruhr was able to put out an Album that was praised
even by their critically judging American comrades. Their
impressive reviews (10 out of 10 ratings) and feedback from
their fans can be witnessed on their own homepage "www.skunk.de".
The names of well known American bands, that have expressed
their respect with regards to Skunk, can be found there as well.
The Singer: "Young 'n angry" describes the extroverted side
of this 25-year-old vivacious singer. Drug excess, 2 kids, successes
in the martial arts and skating (European champion), arrest due to
computer-hacking and much more make up the backbone of this songwriter
who has since turned clean and introspective. Where else do songs get
their expressful contents?
From life of course and Frank has a lot to say about that!
The Band: Till Steinebach is responsible for the tight but
changing rhythm. Christian Lotte and Thomas Block are the
authors of the polished and forceful riffs. The smart brass
(trombone, trumpet and sax) are blown by Matthias Möller,
Nikolaus Neuser and Kai Dorgharden. The mellow energetic
bass is played by Sebastian Deutsch. It's no wonder that
such a colorful combination of individualists is marked
by versatility and variation.
The Album: The 18-song album appeared in July of '98 on the
Hamburg indie-label Art Beat Records, and is distributed
by BMG/Aris.
The Scene: Skunk happens in an environment of fun-sport-freaks.
Without their unconditional support, the band would not be
where they are today. The companies Ozone, Innes, Fact and
Bullywear, with their unbureucratic sponsorship, have
contributed to Skunk's success.
The Tour: The band will go on the "Santa Claus Tour '98" along
with two other American bands after performing a series of
local gigs in their native "Ruhr-pot" (a region named after
the River Ruhr Valley once marked by heavy industries such
as steel, the most populated area of Germany). The tour will
take them through cities in Germany, Switzerland, Italy and
France. Performances are being planed for the upcoming
year in the U.S. and Jamaica with help from Bullywear.
What Are they saying......?:
REDLINE UNDERGROUND / Berkley, California: "The best ska-core band from germany I have ever heard...."
RED ANGRY PLANET : "This is the german answer of no doubt!!!"
