Artist History
Picturesque formed in 1996 with the intent on creating driving, melodic rock. A demo recorded shortly after the band's formation led to a deal with Trustkill Records, and the Shine In Eyes EP was released on Trustkill in January of 1998. A full length album was in the works but never completed, as vocalist Brad Senne chose to pursue other musical opportunities in August 1998. The band parted on good terms and all four members have gone on to new musical projects. The band played frequently in their hometown of Minneapolis and around various locations in the Midwest. |

Press Reviews
College Music Journal (CMJ) #562 (3/23/98)***PICK OF THE WEEK***There is a great deal of excellent emo out right now, and the debut EP from Picturesque only adds to that steady stream of releases. This four piece hails from Minneapolis and is built from the remnants of the hardcore outfit Threadbare, a band known for its "savage attacks of metal mayhem." Picturesque's four song debut reveals the influence of early Shift, san Joshua Loucka's smooth, passionate vocals. Instead, Picturesque's crooner Brad Senne sings in a much raunchier fashion, cutting through the crashing and swaying guitars that placate the listener like a thick down comforter on a cold night. Only 17 minutes in length, 'Shine In Eyes' teems with enough genuine emotion in its short time to make a grown man cry (or at least sniffle.) The EP also benefits from some great production that rivals that of any major label release.Picturesque play Hardcore that strays from the usual angry screamcore variety, and steers towards its just barely more mild-mannered cousin, Emo. Melodic and flowing, the guitars rage just beneath the surface. Emotive, tormented vocals sung at a near whisper explode when the tension builds and the emotional dam breaks. This is finely crafted music that rocks while still being, well, sappy and pretty. Kali H. - listen.com |
