Press Reviews
Dim the lights and cue the music - from California comes Dim - a female fronted five piece that pushes moody swaying rock to a gorgeous new corner. Singer, Mishiko Fronczak, puts a character on these songs not heard before - and the music is intoxicating - perfectly produced with cool guitar sounds. The record here, "Revolving Substances", is a three song EP. The other tunes are "Your Cross" and "One Place". Each tune is a little different in style - although all include that grunge guitar sound that hits right in the chest. The title track opens with a distorted single line tune - and along with Fronczak, the band comes in - moving into a partially dissonant instrumental break between verses. very cool. Fronczak has an avant garde artsy sound, although there are flavors of Chrissie Hynde in there as well - compelling vocalist. Track 2, "Your Cross", is a slow groove ballad - with a wall of sound that hits between chorus lyrics - a relaxing tune with a bit of insane edge. The final track, "One Place", has a chorus that sounds a bit Egyptian, a bit Star Trek drama from the 70's. . and the tune moves up and down hypnotically. Cool record from Dim. |
