    Artist History
Angelo’s creative life started at the age of thirteen when he began writing songs and playing the coffeehouses of New York City and the northeast seaboard armed only with an acoustic guitar. In 1991, after somehow finding himself entrenched in the rich cultural weirdness of the Deep South, Gianni settled in with an acoustic based rock band called Root Cellar who toured the college circuit and lived on Seven-Eleven hotdogs and beer for a few of years. During this time Angelo first came into contact with the maddening and deeply depressing effects of writers block. Unable to write songs, he turned to other forms of creative output to keep him out of trouble until the songs came back. Root Cellar transformed into a new band which specialized in melodic rock with a cello called Treadmill Trackstar. With the help of a Cultural Council grant, Gianni published his first book of fiction and poetry as a companion to Treadmill’s first independent record, both titled “Excessive Use of the Passive Voice.” During this period Angelo also became involved with several film projects which included a bizarre documentary on southern barbecue huts and a film entitled "The Phenomenon of Muhammad Jah Smith" which was a mockumentary on famous artists and what constitutes art. When the next major song writing block appeared and between constant touring with the band, Gianni received another grant, this time from the NEA, to mount an art show entitled “Peppermint Butterbean” which he touted as the first performance of Static Theater, in which paintings, sound and installation pieces where brought together in a gallery “to explore the interplay between them.” In 1996 Treadmill Trackstar signed a contract with Atlantic Records and released their second album entitled “Only This” which the band supported by performing on the summer long Roar Tour with Iggy Pop and at practically every venue in the country. Soon after the release of this record, Angelo’s second book of fiction and poetry called “Cool Moths Never Come to the Light” was published by Autonomous Press. When Treadmill Trackstar had run its course, Gianni dissolved the band and moved to Los Angeles. In 2000 Angelo optioned his first pilot teleplay to Fox/Area 51 which led him to a literary deal with Privilege Talent Agency. His second film short (as writer) collaboration with director Nicole Barnette is scheduled to hit the festival circuit in 2003. He continues work on writing and music from his home in Venice, California.

    Press Reviews
"Beautifully brooding grassroots pop-rock, done with real bravura. . . Gianni's raspy vocals and very downbeat, melancholic, but engrossingly odd point of view immediately grab the listener's attention. . . lovely, shimmering guitar work, Katie Hamilton's resonant, resplendent cello playing, the swirling melodies, and an arresting air of bittersweet anguish do a superb, unerring job of sustaining that attention. Harmonious and heart-breaking in comparable measure, this exquisitely tormented debut album delivers the poignantly reflective, feeling really sad goods with artful, deeply affecting frequency." ~Joe Wawrzyniak, Jersey Beat Magazine "Something original... something with emotional weight... something with a different perspective. Dreamy pop landscapes, beautiful cello musings, land mines of ripping guitar, incisor cut to the emotional bone lyrics, brilliant tortured songwriting..." ~Scott Homewood, The Music Monitor
