... The next band was called TORSION, and I actually enjoyed their set. They had a lot of theatrics: custom lighting, fog, strobes, blacklights, powertools, etc. There were six guys in the band: singer, guitarist, bassist, drummer, keyboardist, and DJ. They had the keyboard hanging from the ceiling by chains which was really nifty. TORSION was an extremely energetic band, and were really good at showmanship. They had excellent stage presence, and captured your full attention. I'd call their music a sort of industrial metal hardcore with some hip-hop influence. Bandwise, I'd say they were a cross between Slipknot and The Dillenger Escape Plan. They were fun to watch, and their rhythm / timing was incredible. Lots of tricky time changes and stop-and-go's. They also had lots of samples and stuff. They also would use powertools to make sparks go everywhere, and during one song they drummed on this big steel barrel with some pipes. That was cool. It's always good to see some creativity ... |
