Artist description
Skiver are a 5-piece band based in Bradford, West Yorkshire. Their musical style is difficult to classify; a blend of guitar based pop, upbeat rock & roll and indie, topped of with a stunning female lead vocal - difficult to pigeonhole except to say that the songs are all devilishly catchy. Many people find themselves humming a Skiver tune for several days after only one hearing. |

Artist History
Skiver were formed early in 1997 originally under the name of Slinky, when the five members met at Bradford University. After some outstanding gigs they built up a strong following and recorded their first demo 'Highly Sprung', featuring the tracks 'I Might Believe', 'Couple of Days', 'If I Could', 'Company' and 'Forever Skies'.Despite the success, at the start of 1998 the band faded into almost total oblivion as less important things like degrees and careers got in the way. There was the occasional practice but no gigs to speak of since the new year performance at Redhill in Surrey. This period of limbo was to last for almost two years.Things finally got back on track in the late summer of 1999 when the band secured a September gig at Bradford University. A permanent practice room was found, and the Slinky name was dropped in favour of Skiver when it was discovered that the name Slinky was already in use by several other bands. In December 1999, the band went on an excursion to London, to record their second demo 'Twenty Two Six' at Roddy Matthew's Room 226 Studios in Camberley. A whirlwind one day effort produced the tracks 'Better Every Day', 'A Thousand Miles', 'Pretty Dumb' and 'Always Fakin'.Skiver now have a definite will about them - a desire to succeed and a passion to share their sound with many more people than their loyal following in West Yorkshire. As a band they have an awful lot going for them; their sound - unforgettable vocal melodies, soaring out over catchy riffs and chord progressions, complemented by a solid back-line - is probably their greatest asset, but their look - fronted by Tori's haunting beauty should also stand them in good stead. In Jim and Toby, Skiver probably have two of the most talented song-writers currently outside of the music industry, and the fact that the two of them should find themselves in a band together can be little more than fate. All in all, Skiver are a band that must be heard... and having heard will want be seen... and then seen and heard again... And again... |

Press Reviews
"Tori has a strong distinctive voice which is perfectly suited to this catchy blend of upbeat guitar based pop. Traditionally written songs which obey all the rules (if there are any!) required to deliver a perfect pop song." - Music Industry Connections"Great Lyrics and a catchy melody make this song [Pretty Dumb] well worth checking out. The music has an upbeat groove and great female vocals that will make you sit up and take notice. This is a very good song." - theglobalmuse.com"Skiver from Bradford brought a touch of old-school indie class to the proceedings with a set of melodic and catchy tunes, an exceptional female vocalist and plenty of enthusiasm. A true song-writing talent was in evidence as the band delivered a well balanced and dynamic set. Highlight of the set though was a quite phenomenal cover of John Lennon's Working Class Hero which received the biggest reception of the night. " - Nick Copland, Promoter, The Strychnine Lounge"Bradford based Skiver had opened the night with another superb performance, demonstrating once more that they have some really excellent tunes and a delivery that is immediately engaging and vibrant, full of rich vocal harmonies." - Nick Copland, Promoter, The Strychnine Lounge |
